Is it worth it at all to grind for Warden Staff before level 60? It's BiS for me and available at a low(ish) level.

I know the drop rate for it is abysmal, but what if I get lucky!

I think the best place for me to grind for it would be at the water elementals in feralas.

Does anyone have any experience trying to roll the dice of the gods and actually finding this item as a world drop?

I mean a comparable item drops in Dire Maul. Like if you don't get the Warden Staff, it's kinda whatever.

The difference in the Unyielding Maul from the Warden Staff is 10 less armor, 1 more stamina, two less in Defense. It's super marginal. Ask yourself if those stats are worth buying the item for 300g+ or grinding for 50 hours for one to maybe drop.

Apparently some people have said grinding level 45-50 dungeon trash as a level 60 is the best farming method. Others have said that farming lava spiders in Searing Gorge is the best bet. But again, I wouldn't think it's worth.

From what I know drops fall into 3 groups:
- Random world drop: Can drop from any mob in the world in a specific level range
- Random zone drop: Can drop from any mob in the specific zone (Like The Butcher can drop from any mob in SM or Eye of Shadow can drop from any mob in specific sub zones of Blasted Lands or Winterspring)
- Specific NPC drops: Only one or few mobs drop it. Like Greater Fire Protection potion recipe or Crusader recipe

If you see that multiple mobs drop something, it is probably random drop, and as such very hard to farm exact mobs. It is probably easier to go farm money fast and get to 300g range and snag one from AH

I'm with @Gensei on this one. Grinding for low drop rate items is a waste of time in my opinion, especially when there's a similar alternative.

In essence, I agree, especially because I'm already doing the long ass grind of trying to get Smoking Heart of the Mountain (already found the recipe, so there is that... just need the enchanting skill and the reagents) so doing another long ass grind for something isn't really something I'm looking forward to, but I know if I do have the Warden Staff it will definitely put me in a better spot to tank than a bear who doesn't have it.

But it's true... I'd likely have to be farming for an insane amount of time to try and get lucky enough to get the drop.

Good point, you can also spend the money on something that has more of a significant impact.

Is it worth it to grind specifically for the Wardens Staff? Hell no. You should grind max gold per hour and buy a Wardens Staff. This is BiS for a very long time. It doesnt matter that it is only marginally better than alternatives that arent even available until phase 2 because it is BiS and if you want to play feral and be taken seriously, you should put in the effort to show that you are serious. I got one early and sold it for 800-1000g (cant remember exactly what we settled on) but now they are down to 350g on my server. 100-500g is peanuts to lock in one of your gear slots as BiS for the majority of the game. But dont exclusively farm for Wardens, that would be silly.

@Justbe farming for a world drop BoE epic is insane. Like Stfu said, farm gold and buy it - heck it might drop while you're gold farming if you're extremely lucky - or you might get another BoE epic and sell it to help fund buying Warden Staff.

Unyielding Maul is a great alternative, but it is Phase 2 and it's not quite as good. So if you have the time/patience, farm gold and get Warden Staff.

And when you say not quite as good, I mean barely. It's so negligible.

TBH, I think most bears can get Warden after long enough. Bear gear is like 90% just from preraid. So once you have it, you won't need to spend much gold on gear in the future, and buying Wardens should be no big deal.

It's true, bears can get a lot of gear pretty easily.

I was just really hoping that by this point (I'm level 48) that maybe I'd have gotten super lucky and would have found it so I could actually use it while leveling as well. But of course, everyone is right. I should just level my ass to 60 and farm gold for it or the item itself.

Unless you have some really niche racket going I don't think farming the gold before 60 is feasible. If you're slotted as the bear tank for your guild you might get them to pool gold for you.

We got one randomly in Maraudon and pooled for another so two of our druids got the staff right as they could equip it. The armor they had in dire bear was insane, making dungeon runs a breeze and accelerating their whole group's xp/hour all the way to 60.

As others have mentioned, you can't really farm for a BoE epic. That being said, Warden staff is BiS for tanks until phase 5 (some say that it's never being replaced for mitigation, EVER. Look for guides for that).

Are you your guilds designated tank? Then the guild can (or ideally, should) pool in the money and buy one from AH. The prices will only increase, so it's best to do it asap. That item will NEVER get placed, and is a huge boost to your tanking capabilities.

Also the Dire Maul version is not coming for at least few more months. Something to consider.
