Hey everyone! Now that the post-release hype has died down I'm thinking of actually playing this game and have a pretty straightforward question for you all...
...how long does it usually take people to reach max level in Classic? Is it similar to private server times or are there other significant differences that im not aware of? I know world first was something ridiculous but I mean for the average player.

Hey QB, there isn't really a one-sentence answer to this - the time taken to reach level 60 involves a lot of different variables such as:
- Your available play time
- Management of rested XP bonus
- The class you choose to play
- Ready availability of friends or guildmates to assist you
And a summary of the findings concludes:
You may find it easier to use masonarypp's amazing WoW Classic levelling calculator web tool - you can input your own available hours and let it do the maths for you.Furious wrote:
- At 10 hours played per week it will take 5 and a half months to reach level 60
- At 20 hours played per week if will take 2.8 months to reach level 60
- Even if you play 40 hours per week it will still take you 1.4 months to reach level 60
Besides that you can speed things up considerably depending on your playstyle and the choices you make. For example learning some basic speedrunning skills will accelerate that time and help you cut corners. Managing your rested XP efficiently will let you maximise this free bonus to chip away at the hours required.
Picking a class that gives you a greater safety net such as a Hunter or Warlock will be faster than say levelling a Warrior. Having people to assist you with bottleneck red quests, for running dungeons with you effectively, and even taking up hyper optimised group strategies such as spell cleaving groups to maximise XP will help.
We have a list of levelling-sepcific guides and resources over here which will provide you with even more information to work with if you're keen on approximating how long it will take you to reach level 60.
So yeah, hopefully this post will help you find the answers you're looking for, and if not then point you in the right direction

in addition to Teeb's post, you can super rush everything with dungeon farming, if you're a mage you can aoe farm solo lvl (a guildie hit 60 in 4 days with aoe solo farming) or join dungeon farming groups called "spellcleave" and those are good leveling source !
of-course following a good leveling guide/route will speed your leveling time !
speaking from my personal journey, i didn't follow any guide, i just leveled where i felt like it, but i had to take long pauses to help guildies with bags and enchants, am 300 ench/tailor since lvl 37 !! so i had allot of wasted time on lvling profs, but now am standing at lvl 58 since a week ago so you can definitely hit 60 within a month if you play 6~8 hours a day ... unfortunately i hit a brick wall so to speak, i feel burnt out from classic and retail at the same time, uni starting tmr ! so i think i'll take a break till phase 2.
in any case, don't be discouraged by numbers, yes leveling in classic is slower than retail by a good margain, but honestly, it didn't feel as bad as i imagined or read online over the years, everything you do in classic has meaning so you don't really feel out of progress or lost, being part of a guild that help you out, and have discussions makes up like 50% of classic enjoyment. so don't look at it as a race, its a journey, and you can choose to sprint through it and skip many things, or walk in a steady pace and enjoy each part of it.
Take your time, explore, and enjoy the game for all it is. It's much more than a speed leveling game. Grind out gold while at a lower level so you aren't left wanting when you hit 40.
Another thing id like to ask is this:
As i was watching a youtube video someone said that when you reach level 60 in classic blizzard gives you bfa for free and a lvl110 char for free. Is this true?

I've been alternating between my main and alts, only really leveling while rested (once they hit level 10 or so). My main enjoyment is to make gold so I tend to spend most of my time doing that while I accumulate rest by parking my main and alts (all with their own professions and AH markets) in the major cities. Once I get about a full level of rest, I go out and level. Sometimes I just grind mobs that drop nice tradegoods (pro tip: ignore cloth, look at the meat prices). If I can't find or don't care to find mobs that drop these things then I'll just quest or run some instances (I have a couple healers and tanks for easy instance groups). I figure each alt should be able to afford their mount well before level 40. My main, a warlock, of course get's a free 40 mount so that will allow my to compound my efforts and hopefully I can pool together all my resources and get my epic at or soon after dinging 60 :D According to @teebling chart though, that sounds like it's a ways off since I spend most of my time in cities rather than leveling xD

My reputation is clean.

I leveled a warrior on a melee cleave. I spent time AFKing with teamviewer to avoid queues. Sometimes my teammates would get stuck in a queue and I would afk until they could log in or I would work on professions. I hit 60 within about 6.5-7 days played. My actual played, removing AFK time etc, would be closer to 4.5-5 days played but I cant say for sure. I can say that if I had personally leveled a warrior as a solo, as I have done in the past, I would expect to have about 8-9 days played so this was a pretty big improvement. This is especially impressive when you consider our 5th (a feral druid) flaked out and we did the end of SM Cath as a 4 man. The druid was so awful that our xp per hour improved when he left. One of the 4 remaining, my brother, had never played an MMO before. So melee cleaves are an easily accessible route to hitting 60 fast.

Depends on the player and class/spec you have a lot to do with it. Im level 50 and have a few lowbie alts as well. Ill hit 60 before november.
