Hello guys.
So im writting this post as wow classic is coming and first of all saying that im still between rogue and warlock. However my main in wow has always been warlock and that’s why i think i have a bigger chance to play it and master it as much as i would love.

That said, my aim would be to do pve and pvp, but probably more pvp, so i would love to have some help with talents (for both if possible) more for the pvp aspect and especially more for when you are leveling in a pvp server and you dont wanna get destroyed, but destroy people.

I will be undead for sure! See you there!

Thank you very much!

Hello

I have no experience playing warlock in classic. But I did main one in TBC and there are some parallels. Especially in terms of world pvp while leveling.

I'd say it sounds like demonology is the right choice for you. It's not the most damaging spec of all, but you can become really quite bulky with imp HS, 15% bonus stamina, 2x voidwalker sacrifice absorb shield (due to Fel domination) and soul link.

I'm not sure what you mean by destroying people. As a warlock tough, you will not have much potential for burst in pvp, but rather wear the victim slowly and steadily down with fears and dots.

I can't help much with the pve aspect, but as for leveling on pvp server and pvp generally, I would definitely go Demo. :)

Hope this helps. Otherwise, I'm sure you will get some answers from more knowledgeable and experienced locks soon enough.

Expect the worst. Hope for the best.

As far as PvP is concerned, the meta is ever-evolving. Typically warlocks will run an SM/Ruin build as a general PvE/PvE spec and DS/Ruin for high end raiding. SL can be fun if you are pushing rank or solo Qing BG's.

As of right now, these are the general specs we see in the warlock PvP meta. A great source of warlock info is Goth or Uhd on youtube.

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#Iy0bhRbZZxt0tMott conflag spec for bgs

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#Iy0bhRbZZxt0trRtk conflag with soulfire stun

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#IE0bVRbkqZZxt0tMoz SM ruin variant with more control / drain

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#IE0bhRbkAZZgx0tM0z Another SM ruin variant similar to above. This particular build is used by Goth (can be found on yotuube)

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#Ii0bZbxuzgxotZxx0z SL shadowburn

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#IA0bGRbZbxuzgxot SL nightfall (my favorite PvP spec ingame for all classes - I play MANY variations of SL when I PvP on lock and like to play with different combinations of drain / raw damage)

Rogues are a bit more complex. They see less synergy between PvE and PvP performance in my opinion and get a lot of situational utility out of swapping specs. A top tier PvP rogue will likely be switching his spec for raiding and for PvP (especially on specific BG weekends). This is very different than the SM ruin lock that can raid and PvP competently with one spec.

Some good rogue PvP info can be found on youtube under Perplexity. Some of the specs he uses are...

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#fhg0oxZGcM0bZVMjcc0R general BG dagger rogue build

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#fhg0RxdhZhZxre0czR general WSG dagger build

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#fhebosdhZZxrI0cGRo WSG hemo build

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#f0ebogZGcZxMjccMR premade WSG build, specifically designed for hunters/druids (flag control)

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#fhxRoEtVoGcM0bZV BWL build that can also be used against druids

https://classicdb.ch/?talent#fGx0oxZGcM0bZVMjcc0R world PvP build

The meta for rogues goes deep and this only scratches the surface. Many of these decisions are based on your gear options. At a certain point, you can run almost any build and find success with any class so your choices should be subject to change throughout the progression of your character. There are plenty of solid guides on the old Nostalrius forums and on the Classic WoW PvP discord for additional information. Everything I wrote above was taken primarily from those two sources as well as the individual credit for content creators mentioned above (Uhd, Goth and Perplexity).

I'm leveling a Warlock right now on a private server, reached 32 last night as Aff/5 points on 15% stam, going for imp VW.
The leveling is really fast, faster than my mage, no downtime while killing at all, no need for drinks nor food. In terms of PvP... If you go deep demo, you own everyone, plus being orc gives you a 25% stun resist to avoid rogue ganks, or WotF for priest and so on.
Leveling as demo might be slow at the beginning but it gives you more room to take risks and as said above, if you roll on a PvP, def go for demo, in your early 20's you'll be facing a lot of PvP.

The current beta lvling meta for warlocks is draintanking with succ or standard imp imp leveling, VW is really not as good in the beta as it is on private servers, and he will not keep aggro as easy and he will not hit as hard.. ..

Affliction offers CoE, which reduces the targets movement speed a lot and would make any melee easily kiteable in wpvp. I would pick this up as my "pvp" talent while leveling, the rest for wpvp is fear and death coil which are both trained regardless of spec.

From my classic beta experience: Untalented voidwalker is AWFUL with aggro but I think talenting his points make him worth it for leveling. Especially if you don't just let him auto-taunt and can manage aggro decently.

The big HP pool, the regen ability, and sacrificing him when things go south for that massive shield are too valuable imo to not use VW when leveling. In Classic Beta I only had 1 or 2 times when that shield wasn't enough to get me out of any bad pull I'd done where I get 3-4 mobs. It's usually enough to survive running away from a HORRIBLE pull of 5-6 mobs if you start running early enough.

Still if you make bad pulls you should be able to survive running the moment it happens anyways, and for those rare occasians where that is not possible you have a soulstone on yourself to resurrect

A warlock on the discord named Goetia has done testing on the beta as a lv40 with imp VW and different lvls of taunt, both cases he took aggro easily and while facetanking himself he might aswell be draintanking to reduce downtime and might aswell use the pet that deals the most dmg consistently (succ)

Yeah this is where my lack of consistency in beta came into play. I've only made it to level 31 I believe due to time constraints and haven't played with TOO many builds other than sl/sl and focusing on demonology. I haven't gotten to play around with too much else... but now that you say this perhaps I should spend my last night in beta testing a few builds.

Another option for leveling on a PvP server might be DS/Ruin. Big survivability and nice damage, overall average.

SL/SL? That is a TBC build for max lvl, not possible in Classic, not enough points for it.

And DS/Ruin is known as glasscannon, no survivability in that spec. You’d be better of with Succ for seducing or VW for sac, speccing aff / demo.

Yeah major typo. I think I meant SM Ruin. I'm horrible with the acronyms.

Same.. Not the best at that either, I only know SL / SL due to how good it was in TBC 2s

I'm looking forward to rolling a Lock. And the Blueberry is the man if you are soloing like I have to. It worked great back then for me and it's supposed to be the same game so it should be a great time.

Blue still seems to be the top dog when it comes to soloing specific hard quests, otherwise you would be better off while lvling with other demons according to beta!

Ah hell no, it's shit for leveling and you don't have enough +Shadow damage items to make it worth it while leveling. Doesn't hold a candle to imp. Corruption, imp. Drain Soul, extended range for your spells, a slow and instant SBs once in a while.
