A user called YorkeZimmer on reddit recently created a post that blew up quite a bit concerning the damage the mobs are doing. They back it up with references to an old Joana video and some a picture from the old beastiary

After watching a bit of Asmon's stream where he ranted about vanilla being stupidly easy and proceded to be extremely condenscending towards the people who enjoy vanilla for being challenging in terms of its mobs and pulls, this is shaping up to be very satisfying.
(This is my first post here, I don't know if it's OK to cross-link to stuff on reddit, but I figured the discussion here could be a bit less ... ugh than the one on reddit)

You're fine with cross-linking, no worries there.
This also seems to be back and forth, because there's also this thread doing a comparison between Asmongold's SFK run and an old SFK run, and the damage seems higher in some places for him, and the same in others.

I faintly seem to remember so too, even in TBC. I wouldn't be able to say anything for sure, and I was definitely the biggest noob in existance back then which probably only increased my perceived difficulty. To me it's a bit strange all of this is even an issue as it's my understanding that Blizzard has a 100% true 1.12 server running in-house to check up on stuff with. Either way, they should be able to check up on it quite easily.

I wish people could provide more than just videos and streamclips.
Stuff like combat logs, using beast lore on the mob to check the stats (It did reveal armor and damage back in vanilla right?), showing us their current armor value, defense rating etc. would be very helpful. That way we can get better guesses at what's wrong.
Without it we're kinda swinging at the dark. There are some good theories about Attack speed/DPS shenanigans, or that a faulty Defense Calculation is at work and glancing/crushing blows are not working correctly, maybe it's a wrong armor calculation.. It could have one reason or many, but we need more stuff to work with.

As far as I've understood there's a lot of misconception by a lot of people about the state of the game in the version of WoW they're implementing in Classic. And since most references are or old videos or private servers it's hard to do a good compare. But that's what the beta is all about, if there's enough fuss going around about this topic I'm sure Blizzard will eventually make a response on it.

It's very weird. Watching Preach's run of Ragefire chasms with his Tauren warrior, the damage the mobs deal seems right and he is getting crit (or crushed, cant tell because no combat log) on a regular basis, the mobs being yellow and elite.
On the other side you have Asmongold tanking some Deadwind Pass vulture that actually never lands a crit/crushing blow on him despite being a ?? to him and also being a warrior in defensive stance just like Preach.
I guess so. Well. there's still plenty of time until release so I'm sure they'll figure out what's going on, or if there's something going on in the first place.

hmmm did they make Classic WoW casual....hmm.
No tbh - maybe they have not the old damages numbers, hopefully they fix it soon!
Twitch Channel, feel free to take a look :)!

If you check the comments of the reddit thread it all makes sense and debunks the theory. I don't think Blizzard would intentionally shadownerf anything in regards to incoming damage as they know that so many people are out to check for everything to be right. What many people forget is that this is a game we basically know everything about. Of course the game will not be as hard and as new as it was back then, when the genre and game were completely fresh - espacially for experienced players. Also many things we think we do know are false due to private servers not having right values etc.

I really hope that Blizzard will address this in this week considering how many people seem to be curious about it.

Blizzard has already figured it out:

Hello!
We've figured out that there is an issue with Stoneskin Totem. Basically, it isn't correctly removing its melee damage reduction when it expires. We've seen in examples given where the player had previously grouped with a Shaman, and carried forward the effects of the totem.
We're fixing this, and the fix will be in the next build of WoW Classic. We'll put it into our Known Issues list until then.
Thank you!

I used to play Warn, human mage on The Maelstrom EU <Ashbringer | Rachell's Angels | Entrophy | Relentless>

I'm so curious how all of this will end up... I've also heard some rumors that pserver difficult was actually scaled up a bit? If so I'd like to know by how much and which mobs... Boss mobs, all mobs??? It will be really interesting to see how this all pans out.

We have further evidence from Blizzard that they're testing and comparing damage from the beta to their 1.12 reference. People have been saying bosses are doing less than normal damage, yet it turns out it's correct.

Yeah, this thread is two weeks old. Here's a link to the blizzard post confirming it was a stoneskin tot bug.
