If you’re eager to claim your character name in WoW Classic, take note: we’ll be opening character creation on Tuesday, August 13.** Players with an active subscription or game time on their account will be able to create up to three characters per World of Warcraft account. We’ll have more information on realm names closer to launch, but rest assured—you’ll have plenty of time to figure out your plans for realm domination!
What are your thoughts on being able to reserve three names before the game is launched? Do you think this will allow bots with basic accounts to reserve names intended for resale?
I am personally not a fan because I have a long list of names that I would like to get on different servers and this will limit me to only three in the beginning.

I'm not a fan because they're requiring a subscription just for that.
When you combine it with Blizzard making the odd change from 'sub required to play beta, anyone can sign up' over to 'sub required to sign up AND play' it's pretty clear they're after a cash grab any way they can.
Not a fan.

This is good thing, i like how they approach this. Three characters for one account is fine to save your favourite name and avoid people to reserve too many "cool" names. Having a subscription is a perk for people who actually care about game at this moment and are not trolls to steal everybody names on free accounts. No mean a cash grab just a way to avoid said problems.

It will be interesting to see how successful this process is. It could be a shit fight, but I may do it to try an secure my two main names.

I'm fine with this approach. They could have made it better, sure, but at least they took an approach for it. I'm not sure what name I want to reserve.
"Firelord" would be neat, but is it a name I want, or is it a name I will even be able to take? We'll see. As said, I got plenty of time to think. I'm not 100% sure yet what faction, race and class I want to go with yet.

Yea, im wondering if this will be their best metric to field how many servers they plan to initially launch with? Either way, i'll be reserving my names too!

I don't really care. Not paying half a month in advance just to reserve a name.

I would much prefer to reserve my character names without having to subscribe in advance, but I've decided that I'm going to do it anyway.

really do not care because i have around 12 names and most of them are not taken even on retail.
Manofwar
Kampfzwerg
Mojo

Let me put it this way: if they'd sell the service to reserve 3 names for 13 euros, we'd still buy it. This way we get a few weeks of retail sub and 2 weeks of Classic WoW included.
Yeah it's a sucky principle but I'd still pay. I would've paid a lot more for Classic WoW alone, I don't care.

It will be a game in itself; a mad scramble to get your ultimate Classic name. Everyone will log in to get theirs, server overloads, outages, confusion, dogs & cats living together, Mass Hysteria...

My battletag is: RevChris#1597

As I understand that feature, it is still only three names on up to three servers.
Its a good feature, and I guess I will take my mains name on several PVP servers if there is a sudden change of plans and it's gonna be a different server.

I'm happy to hear they're doing this, but I hope they also allow us to choose our character features, as well.

Half a sub to narrow down who really wants to reserve names or not is a good idea. It’s like rehoming fees for pets: you don’t necessarily need the money but you want the name to go to someone who will love and use it (and in the case of pets, care for it well because of the investment).

Idk tbh, i have no opinion. I'm perfectly fine with creating a name on launch day but i can understand some people's request for names.

No original unarmored epic mounts

I am dreading the thought that I could pick my names on a streamer server.
I guess I should put my main’s name on three different servers and see what happens? Would have liked to reserve my alt’s name too...

Yup, same here, but I'll most likely still reserve some of my names anyway. Atleast it's just a couple of weeks prior to launch. If they wanted to go full cashgrab they could've went with July instead.
On top of that I'm planning to play with friends and it's hard to get them to make their mind up about stuff. Here's to hope we know which server we will play on so I can reserve names on the correct ones. It'd suck to have the reserved names stuck on a realm you aren't going to play on because your friends changed their mind on launch day..

Kinda stresses me out. I really want some of my favorite character names (cough, Authiel, cough) reserved on whatever realm my friends and I play on. I just hope we get a server list before then so my friend group can pre-determine where we are going to roll so I can get my precious names.

Smart move on behalf of Blizzard. This is gonna be an early snapshot of how many players to expect per realm and be they'll able to adjust accordingly prior to actual launch.
Consider the fact that @Teebling got beta access w/o a sub. I doubt it's for the money.Executive wrote: ↑6 years agoI'm not a fan because they're requiring a subscription just for that.

You don't need a sub to "apply" for beta, but I would say to be granted an invite you would need a sub (unless you have sick privileges like teebs!).

I think it's disgusting that they did this and I have been strongly against people subscribing for a chance to play the beta but I won't be able to get the names I want if I don't do this so I'm unsure as to what I'm going to do. Regardless it's pretty greedy and scummy of Blizzard.

I guess I'll take a subscription to reserve some names. I might just log into the BfA version of WoW to check out my old characters.

It's good, it allows people to not insta take all the good names - like I normally do.
I want 3 characters in Classic so it works well for me.
This is a well used practice in MMOs with almost all Korean MMOs use this on fresh launches so I don't understand what the problem is other than some privilege players seem to think they have -- inb4 "having to pay for it" most western publishers of KR MMOs make you pay £20+ for name res.
