First of all, they have added a new option to the beta profile page called 'WoW Classic'. This is different from the World of Warcraft option. Make sure you have this checked!
So to summarise:Blizzard Entertainment
To fill our pool of beta and stress test participants, we’ll be choosing dedicated players who meet select criteria from both the WoW Classic beta opt-in and the standard Warcraft beta opt-in. Participants will also need to have an active subscription or active game time on their Battle.net Account. While opting-in to the beta is the primary way to make sure you’re in the running to join the test it doesn’t guarantee an invitation to the closed beta test. We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community.
- You have to have an active WoW subscription or active game time to participate
- How long you have been subscribed to the game MAY be factored into likelihood of being chosen - how this works is unclear as they say they'd like a 'mix' of people for the testing (so they may mean people who haven't subbed for a while, and people who have been actively playing BfA) and it's not guaranteed that this is even 100% going to be a factor
Stadics on the subscription bit:

What you get from holding a subscription and opting in to the 'beta' is thus more or less a chance to participate in one of three 1-day stress tests.

Thank you teebs, this is very useful

Traditionally, beta characters do not make it to live servers. So don't fret if you don't get access to beta, many of us won't. It's the live servers that truly matter!
If you do get Beta access, do us all a favor and participate. Put in your two cents, you're a spokesperson for the community at large.

Kind of a bullshit move on Blizz's part to require an active sub to be selected, but I guess they're hurting for the revenue until August.
Pretty lame for them to make a new tab for this, I've had the Warcraft one ticked for like 7 years, wouldn't be surprised if they did it on purpose.
Don't be that guy that subscribes for this, don't enable their behavior.

Blizzard as we know it has been dead for a while now. I knew Blizzard would turn into this when they did the merger with Activision.
The true Blizzard we used to know would never make a active sub a demand for a chance at the beta. Blizzard == Activision these day's.
I ain't giving them a dime. I can wait till the actual release.

I will not subscribe before wow classic arrives. I already participated in several betas... some of them were for blizzard games/expansions. If you are doing the beta-testing the right way, its more work than gaming. I hope they invite the people that are willing and be able to actually improve the game to a state that fells polished.

Couldn't see this mentioned anywhere - the BETA participation for CLASSIC has got it's own checkbox, I hadn't noticed until now.

Btw; what's the trick to link an image? Tag description seems inaccurate.

yeah saw it in swiftys stream and was shocked that they just added classic

As for the seperate beta section, that absolutely make sense to me. The beta will be very small, so they want to make sure only people that follow and care about Classic and the beta will get an invite. Opening the registration just short before giving out the invites should do just that.

Damn, didn't know I had to check off the beta test option, didn't even know those options were a thing you could change lol. Even though I'm a little late to checking it off, I hope I get lucky enough to be picked.

I think I'm in the closed beta boys, downloading the client at the moment after refreshing my Bnet account. No email received about it.

I'm pretty sure that this is on purpose. There are many people who just have that Warcraft one ticked for ages that do not intend to play classic, so they wouldn't want to "waste" their invites on them.
That I agree 100%.
