Before patch 1.4 drums of war, there were 100% speed epic mounts that looked exactly like the 60% speed mounts, just in a different color, and costed 1000 g for the mount and 100 g for the training. ASSUMING blizzard is going to implement this system for the first 2 phases or so, are you going to farm the OG mount skins before they disappear, or will you wait until the armored versions arrive in a later phase?

No original unarmored epic mounts

Yep, I want the epic mount asap. I won't be waiting for phase 2 for the warlock Dreadsteed quest.

Perhaps with the recent announcement re: itemisation this could be a moot point. If they are going to 1.12 all items regardless of phase then this might cover mounts too right seeing as they are items in your backpack? Dno

I guess to cap off this old thread and keep it up to date...

The original epic mounts won't be in classic.

"It is the current vendor mounts for 1.12. We aren't putting back the unarmored mounts. We just talked about this recently internally. We know some people are interested in them, but we don't want to put them in for a limited period of time, because we didn't want to influence people through their first leveling experience. Especially people coming back for the first time. We don't want people to feel like they have to rush. If you want to level slowly and enjoy the journey, you should. That's how I like to play--taking it slow, running every dungeon."

Sucks, because I like the unarmored ones better. But whatever, it's already decided.

Good luck hitting 60 in two weeks. I'd say if you played non stop and kill everything you see along with quests and dungeons, you might make it other than that, you won't. It's not even close to the same leveling speed as retail. Plus that first couple of weeks there is a good chance you'll be standing around waiting for things to pop so you can kill them for your quest. Not to mention the time spent in LFG for dungeons which you'll need if you think you can make it in two weeks. Running everywhere until level 40, is very time consuming. But if you think you can speed run through everything and still farm enough gold for your level 40 mount, and then your level 60, you go for it.

2 weeks is managable if you want to speed through it. With Layering there wont be much standing around and waiting for things to pop up. And if they are, you can just grind through dungeons. You can earn enough money for 40 mount on the way to 40 if you know what to spend money on and what professions to take at the start.

...unless they show up in the cash shop later. Why else leave them out at release?

He has a point, something seems fishy about this.

Yeeaahh...
Some say they'll not be in the game because then people who are to slow (or check in later) to buy the mount will feel that they missed something big in the game... again.

I say, for some people in Activision this is a big marketing stunt and money machine. That being said, I agree with @Meanderthal.

I don't think there will be items in the cash shop for classic; at least it seems like a very bad PR move

I certainly hope not as well, but I've also wondered about WoW trading card game items... those were pretty big in Vanilla through WotLK. Very special items came from there... so what happens to those now? Are they never available like these mounts?

I have no interest in "collecting" things that will take up space in my bags, won't be added to my bnet account, and serve no purpose except to be a giant cosmetic e-peen. With that having been said, Bliizzard's decision is a huge "fuck you" to those of us who are playing Classic specifically to see and experience all the tings that we missed out on because we weren't poopsockers back in 2004.

1000g in vanilla would be something like 100k g in retail.

I will be farming it, but i won’t put that much effort into getting a mount that looks identical but is only slightly faster.

Odds are i won’t have enough before the armored mounts are released anyway.

They're not going to be available either way, epic mounts will be armored mounts from day 1:
