The first time I walked up to these gates I just had to stop for a few seconds in awe. I'd finally made it to the place I'd seen on all of the PvP videos I'd been watching. A few seconds was all I had before I was ganked, obviously. Nonetheless, this particular location has a special place in my heart and is the first thing I think of when somebody mentions Vanilla.
What's your special place?

thanks for Cata blizz...
not!

I think you're right, that is incredibly iconic - although I might suggest the big chains inside, or the balcony outside UBRS also.Relik wrote: ↑6 years ago

I know this is far more accessible, and pretty much everyone has experienced it, but Stormwind City gates!
That music crescendo that hits you when you first enter the city is crazy. Even though it's something you run into early on, it is amazing. Sends chills down the spine.

Maybe Eastern Plaguelands music? That thing has "danger, death, destruction, decay" written all over it, and there are some recurrent motifs there used in Felwood and some other dungeons as well.

For me it has to be the Twilight Grove. I remember my mom used to see my playing and say "this game is beautiful" and I remember when I first saw the Twilight Grove she was there and she was amazed too. With the dragon there I about shit my pants but damn if it wasn't a nice place, so mysterious too for me.

Shit I forgot about this too, the first time I entered Stormwind... it was something else man, the music and the scenery, just fucking amazing. I still get chills whenever I hear the "Glory Serem" (no clue how to spell it) part.William wrote: ↑6 years agoI know this is far more accessible, and pretty much everyone has experienced it, but Stormwind City gates!

What a shout. Going from duskwood into this place is the ultimate juxtaposition. Insane.Oderlods wrote: ↑6 years agoFor me it has to be the Twilight Grove. For me it was probably Ironforge. My very first character was a dwarf paladin and I just remember entering Ironforge and getting blown away at the size and look of the city. Plus the fact there were no loading times just walking into a place like that blew my mind.
Good point, I totally forgot how amazing it was that this huge world had no loading screens at all.
I'd been playing Guild Wars just before picking up WoW and everything had a loading screen.

Not my photo and this is something very specific to me, but this spot next to the bridge between the AH and the Bank in Ironforge - on my server this specific spot was where my guild would hang out during downtime. If there were people online that weren't out and about in the world, or before or after raid time, this is where we'd be.
Lots of chatter and stories in this spot, and lots of memories.

For me one of the most amazing views at least with long visual graphics, was standing on top of mountains in Barrens and looking out.
Same goes for Thunderbluff, seing it while moving from Tauren starter zone and also once you are all the way up.

Agree! Walking into the ruins of Lordaeron for the first time was so cool. I got lost in the Undercity forever.Soulovum wrote: ↑6 years agoWhen you're a level 8 running to UC for the first time this is the coolest thing in the world and so spooky.

Looking at all of these photos really bring back the 'feel' I had experiencing these places in vanilla. How is it so different now? I remember just walking through Orgrimmar and listening to the wolf howls and looking up at the hide tarps over The Drag, walking down into the Cleft of Shadow and visiting the trainer. It was all so much different than it is now.

i'll always remember my first big wow moment in wow, lol. very first character was a night elf rogue which i got to level 20-something before changing realms and going horde.
anyway i was running around exploring in ashenvale, went over this bridge into some kind of land of eternal autumn looking place where a bunch of stuff killed me pretty fast if i got near it. that didn't put me off though, but soon i encountered this
and was suffienciently awed enough to run back to where i came from

I was getting ready to post BRM as soon as I read the topic.
Truly iconic for both PvPers and raiders.
Didn't have to be either of those... Blackrock STILL feels like home when I go there while leveling. I did a little raiding (MC and part of BWL), but BRD, LBRS, and UBRS were a second home to me. Attunement runs, Onyxia key runs, pattern farming runs, Shanker runs, Finkle's skinner runs... I wish I had a dollar for every hour I spent inside those doors.

Yeah, any place with a heavy Scourge or Forsaken presence will have very creepy, haunting music.Nymis wrote: ↑6 years agoMaybe Eastern Plaguelands music? My reputation is clean.

Gates of Ironforge/Org. Probably more iconic. Especially seeing as a large population of players never made it to blackrock mountain in retail.

Personally the top exit of venture co mine in Mulgore. I discovered this place years after I started playing because I decided to explore the full mine. After many wipes I reached the top. The view is amazing, you are higher than TB... And there's also an engineering trainer! It was one of the first places where I felt I wanted to dwelve into finding nooks and crannies of this world. It will always have a special place in my heart
