Hello! Can't wait for classic to release!
I've read some stuff that mentioned the current vanilla servers having a very high percentage of warriors. I will be playing with a friend that is planning to roll a dwarf priest and thought warrior would be a good combo. But I usually don't like to play the most popular class.
It's hard to know for sure, but do you guys expect a big chunk of the playerbase to be warriors?
I like the idea of rolling warrior/priest to help speed up the process of finding groups for dungeons, but I'd rather play a lesser played class if 20% of people will be warriors.

There is a pretty simple reason for their dominance:
- Best Endgame PvE DPS: Fury Warrior
- Best Endgame PvP DPS: Arms Warrior
- Best Endgame PvE Tank: Prot Warrior
I'll probably play a druid, which is typically around 6%

Oh, well...lol. Makes sense why there would be so many warriors.Best Endgame PvE DPS: Fury Warrior
Best Endgame PvP DPS: Arms Warrior
Best Endgame PvE Tank: Prot Warrior
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, a large chunk of the population will roll Warriors.
Whether or not they'll be willing to level them to 60 is another matter. However, given that people know the pay off waiting for them once they succeed this time around, I think the majority will stick through it.

Deciding on a class without having specific data and info on population beforehand is difficult. I would, however, not go after the data from private servers. Warriors are known to be tough to level alone and I personaly think many will refrain from doing it. In the end, play what you want to play and don't put too much emphasis on buts and ifs.

I understand not wanting to play a widely used class, but I do ultimately think playing a class that has mechanics you enjoy is the most important. Like others have said above, warrior is killer is just about every aspect once you can get over the leveling and gearing difficulties.
If getting your name out there as a competent warrior is what you want and are worried about with so many people maining them, just make sure you work hard to be a guy/gal that's always there for others. Be a nice person and know how to play and you'll make some good connections.

I think a lot of the issue with Warriors being "popular" on private servers is usually that there is only a single server, so the density gets skewed. If official servers have a cap of 3 - 5k, it's likely to be less of a problem.
Also as was said, you should play what you enjoy. If that's Warrior, you shouldn't let other people playing it deter you :)

Thank you all for your replies. Given me a lot to ponder.
Not sure if I'll go warrior or not still. My priority is to play a class that I think will benefit the friends I plan on playing with. Even if there are a lot of warriors, I don't think that would impact that decision.
Thanks again and I hope to see you all in classic soon!

Roll a Druid instead.
It's the least played class, and you can tank, dps, and heal, so finding groups for dungeons will be even easier than going Warrior.

While I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, finding a group as a healer, a tank or a dps is actually tricky at higher levels, because of the following perception:
- DPS: Druids can't DPS! (not strictly true, feral is competent dps)
- Tank: Druids can't tank! (not true, feral is more than competent for tanking 5 mans)
- Heal: Ok you can heal, but unless we bring a hybrid DPS you can't rez! (This is true, and frustrating)
Having said all that, I can't wait to level my Druid....

On Nost in my guild we ran a Druid OT for a lot of content. 5.5k buffed HP allowed us a lot of leeway, most OT fights are about health than damage mitigation. Mind you this was MC/BWL content. I can't speak for AQ or beyond.Selexin wrote: ↑6 years agoWhile I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, finding a group as a healer, a tank or a dps is actually tricky at higher levels, because of the following perception:These are real problems that Druids face. Not so much at the lower levels but as you get higher and can get harder. You are either going as a mediocre DPS, a decent healer that can't rez, or as a tank that some people don't respect as a true tank. They do have more respect now compared to vanilla, so I am hoping people are more open minded.

No you are right Solveig, they are phenomenal OT's through a lot of content. They can achieve outrageous amounts of HP/Armor/Dodge. I am considering pursuing tanking as my Druid's main role in Classic WoW based on their now more accepted and understood role in raids/dungeons.

Like with every class/spec in Vanilla, just gotta find a guild/group of people who will accept what you decide to play. The top of the top guilds probably wil still turn their noses up at something like a Druid OT, but any normal guild should be fine with it.Selexin wrote: ↑6 years agoNo you are right Solveig, they are phenomenal OT's through a lot of content. Still personally find Bear tanks to be the absolute top for running dungeons. DPS output while also tanking large groups is nuts and makes for quick runs.

Who would be a bear with long ears? Horns are the way to go, am I right or what?

"Oh Granny Druid, what big ears you've got!" and the wolf Druid replies "All the better to hear you with, my dear!"

Yes, Tauren bear does look better, but NE has the better cat IMO. It's a tricky proposition. ;-)SweaterMonster wrote: ↑6 years agoWho would be a bear with long ears? Horns are the way to go, am I right or what?

Hahaha, I agree with you @SweaterMonster although I will admit NE Cat is better suited for stealthing, Tauren Cat is better for full frontal attacks (thematically).SweaterMonster wrote: ↑6 years ago
I disagree, look at those mighty horns! It's basically a lion fused with a bull, seems pretty wicked to me. And when you're not in any form, you're a cow. So another plus right there I'd say.

Yeah, I agree, that was my main issue deciding between Tauren and Night Elf. Shadowmeld is such an underrated racial which is so nice in PvP, or even trying to get through some mobs, but at the same time... you have to be an elf... So I figured a bipedal bovine that lives on-top of these huge bluffs wins me over rather than some combat advantage.

Yeh I like the dodge passive from NE for tanking, but the HP/War Stomp I feel is probably better from Tauren. Plus like you say, walking around as a bipedal bovine cruising from bluff to bluff on a suspended wooden bridge is just baller.SweaterMonster wrote: ↑6 years agoYeah, I agree, that was my main issue deciding between Tauren and Night Elf. Bring it...
