Hi all!
So basically, I have been playing on the EU Defias Brotherhood RP-PvP server from Vanilla till WotLK. It was a great time, filled with both great RP and PvP types of events. Me and my friends were really eager to start playing WoW Classic and sort of relive the good ol’days, but the intention was always to start our journey on an RP-PvP server. When Blizzard mentioned that they do not have the intention to launch these types of servers at launch, me and many others were pretty torn up about it. It was due to this I wanted to throw in some random ideas if these servers really do not launch, but also this let everyone know I started up a petition for people to sign in order to truly show Blizzard that we want these types of servers.
So now that is out of the way, I wanted to set up a couple of `what if’ scenario’s, in case RP-PvP will not be available at launch. These were some random thoughts I had that I wanted to share to see how people think about this:
One scenario would be that the people that wanted to play on an RP-PvP server select a specific RP server to join, so that likeminded people are mostly bundled on the same server. This way, we are able to RP and the chances of encountering more PVP-flagged people is greatly improved. A different approach would be to join a PVP server and RP there, but I do think that greatly impacts the RP side of things. This was just a random thought I had, but I do think that if likeminded people join a specific server, it would be easier to sort of recreate the experience.
Another option would be to just not play until these types of servers are released, but who is to say that these will release at all? Nothing is set in stone. Therefore, I urge people to keep talking about this subject and let Blizzard see that these types of servers are definitely in demand!
Anyways, would love to hear your thoughts about this topic and what you think of what could be a suitable replacement in case RP-PvP servers will not be part available when the game launches.

What about playing on normal PvP servers and just doing RP events there? Can't help but see that you left that option unaddressed.
I'm fairly sure you'll get the RP-PVP servers, but I can definitely see why wouldn't be inclined to give them to you. Just looking at some of the population on WoWprogress (by no means an accurate metric, but still a representative one) I can see that RP-PvP makes up half of the population of RP-ers, which is not that great overall - the situation is more dramatic on the NA servers, as shown below:
The major concern I have is with opening too many realms and thinning out the population too much.
Eh, if they open one RP-PvP realm for each major region it’s not a big deal.

My thoughts exactly. Let's say Blizzard would open 3 RP realms for each major region, then they might as well make one of these RP realms a RP-PVP realm. Then you would have 2 RP and 1 RP-PVP. I wouldn't see the problem with this. I played on the EU Defias Brotherhood realm from vanilla until WOTLK. This server was alive and well for all these years. Of course I don't know when exactly the server died out though, because I quit after WOTLK.
I agree that opening 1 RP-PVP per region is nice step towards players because there is some demand for it. I wouldnt do more than that. Just one as that would solve more problems in one go.
I don't see why they wouldn't have one per region, there's definitely enough people that'd use them.

Please keep providing feedback, we know some of you want RP-PvP, and even if that doesn’t happen at launch, there’s always a chance to expand our realm structure if there’s enough demand for it, so definitely keep making yourselves heard by sharing your feedback and we’ll make sure to relay it to the dev team.
Yeah, I saw that post. However, there is always a possibility that they will not set up a RP PvP server at all. Aside from that, I do not think a lot of people will reroll on a new server after spending so much time on their current character.
Which makes complete sense. I don't know why they would consider RP-PvP not to be a success enough to have it at launch, but instead release one later and somehow convince everyone to re-roll onto it then. If they're truly taking the #NoChanges approach they won't have server transfers, so they won't let people freely move. Besides, that would disrupt economies and realm firsts, etc.
Indeed, and aside from that, you will have met a lot of people by then, so even if transferring would be a possibility, I do not think a lot of people will.
On a side note, we are almost at 300 signatures. It's insane. 300 doesn't sound like a lot (and I get that), but I always picture that amount of people in like a room or hall and it suddenly seems so much. People really seem to love RP-PVP, which Blizzard apparently underestimates.
I've actually never played on an RP realm, PvP or non. I just feel that if we want this to be a real and fair experience for everyone, we need to have the realm types that were available for the communities surrounding the game. If not, they're really leaving a lot of their players out of the picture.
There's been a few videos and a decent level of attention surrounding this issue since Blizzard's Q&A.

I'm pretty sure there will atleast be an RP-PvP server per zone. Blizzard has been listening, and I read that there already were RPPvP servers back in the day. I don't think they will not open a few of them nowadays.

I think the blue post linked above is just blizzard telling the community to give them some feedback if rp-pvp is needed at all and have some new data.
I guess in modern Blizzard they have to convince the higher ups a at Actiblizz of everything they want to be in game bc features cost time and money. Like they could convince them of expanding from 4 phases to 6, but they could not convince them of old AV.

When I heard that Blizzard wouldn't open RPPVP it made me think one thing: that there would already only be one RP server per region.
It sounds almost crazy, but it's the only situation where you couldn't take a RP server and make it RPPVP.
EDIT: Or perhaps, certain regions are getting only one RP server and Blizzard went ahead and made all regions conform to having the same server type. So say EU or NA might have been able to have an RPPVP, but not anyone else, and Blizzard killed the whole thing due to that.
I've been on EU Defias Brotherhood since TBC and I'd say the server started to die out (in terms of RPPVP activity) during Cata. Just seemed like less and less people were engaging with the story and with levelling zones. Back in the day I couldn't quest in a single zone without seeing other players RPing, interacting with the environment and waging war on each other in world PVP. It would be a real shame if Blizzard didn't bring in RPPVP servers in Classic because DB was such a great server back in the day and it would be nice to see something like that make a comeback.
