It is a pretty big issue in current retail WoW, doing more harm than does good for the community.
The question is, will Classic have it, either at release or at a later date ? Being able to auto-ban your competition in the race for server firsts, pvp ranks, farming spots etc. seems pretty scary...
Not sure how dumb blizzard is gonna be about that regarding Classic, but seeing as they have been stupid enough to invent and allow it in the first place they might just add it as part of their 'QoL enhancements'.

Thoughts ?

 Blizzard Entertainment
Additional improvements will include modern anti-cheat/botting detection, customer service and Battle.net integration, and similar conveniences that do not affect the core gameplay experience.

This is the only official statement they have made regarding anti-cheating/security stuff so far.

We’ve reached over 2000 posts by the way guys!!

This is one of the most disturbing problems that are on the horizon. Just taking into consideration the fact that they are turning away lots of employees specifically from the customer service department doesn't mean anything good in this regard. Sadly, I don't any see case where Blizzard wouldn't implement this.

geez, that is a somewhat grim prospect...better stay on peeps good side and keep your head down is the way to go I guess.
I can already see the reddit frontpage rants about it once the drama begins...;;

It's a terrible thing and Blizzard should do away with it. That being said, I believe the fix is simple:

1) Take no automated action regardless of how many reports.
2) Prioritize tickets depending on how many reports have been received and whatever criterion for severity they have in place.
3) Slap a 1-3 day ban for everyone who abuses the system like that.

End of discussion. Word goes out they're giving no punishments and 3 days ban to people who are abusing it, it will die out.

Dumb enough to think this is acceptable.
I doubt any1 would use this feature for "good".
All automated ban systems (besides anti-cheats) i came across in online games are awful, they just ban people based on the amount of reports, they don't even have checks in place to see if the report is legit.

This is something that requires a real person, not a machine.
Bring back the old ticket system @Blizzard

The implementation of this feature would be a pretty big problem imho, since many people already demonstrated how you can easily abuse this in bg and similar. The recent layoffs seem to go in a way of heavy automation on this side, as is also demonstrated by the loot-trading they seem to implement also. Both this changes are problematic in my opinion: I would prefer to wait 2-3 days to get my ticket sorted than having this kind of system that are really exploitable nowadays

Can someone explain what "auto-banning" is to me? I haven't played WoW since BC so I don't really know what has been gong on in the mean time.

Full bore!

@acrmojt I think it's where you can get them kicked from the BG with enough false reports for afk or false reports for language to get them muted. I think I was defending in AV once years ago in retail WoW and some people did this to me. It really encourages mob mentality to have someone screaming to get rid of you and there are quite a lot of players that can be herded and coerced into cooperating.

The system that executes the kicks/bans is automated - there is no real person behind it. If there are enough reports from number of people, you can get punished, even for doing nothing wrong. Highly abusable imo.

Right-click auto banning refers to the currently common malpractice of rightclicking on anyways portrait you do not like (for any reason), selecting report -> random reason, and then getting your pals, guild mats, peeps on your team in bg to do the same. with a sufficient number of reports (just a few can be enough, eg in bgs) that player will automatically be disconnected from the game and banned for several hours, or longer.

it is automatic bc there is no person in charge of it, it is an entirely automated system that simply works off of the number of reports someone is getting, whether they are justified or not.

so, imagine your are in a rated bg and the enemy main healer is just too much to handle for your team...have your team report him...he will be force-disconnected and you get an ez bg win.

imagine pushing for server/realm/region top raid rankings...just have half your guild report any rival guild's main tanks shortly before their usual raid times...

doesnt even have to be anything as dramatic is this; just get unlucky enough to get into a grp with three premades for a dungeon and on of them wants an item that drops from one of the bosses, but you want it too...well, your fucked.

It would be nice if they built something into the algorithm at least which makes it more selective. So that people at the very least have to be in the same party, zone, battleground or raid to be able to give their 'vote' any weight. That way people can't just ask their 20+ online guild mates who aren't even with you at the time to right click ban some guy in your group. At least in that case it has to be in the same context.

Or maybe they have this in place already? It wouldn't solve the issue but it would help negate the possibility of abusive use.
