PvP Shadow Priest Stat Priority

The following Stat Priority recommendations are a guideline for you to decide how you want to gear. In order, PvP Shadow Priest Stat Priority is as follows:

  1. Resilience
  2. Hit Rating
  3. Spell Penetration
  4. Spell Power
  5. Haste
  6. Critical Strike Chance

Resilience

When it comes to Player-versus-Player combat, Resilience is the most important stat that you can acquire. It offers reduced damage from critical strikes, reduced effects from mana-draining abilities, and also reduces the overall damage that you receive from other players and their pets.

Considering that as a Shadow Priest you wear cloth armor, you will be susceptible to higher physical damage than other classes (due to the reduced armor rating you’ll have). Therefore, you should always try to get as much resilience as possible without hindering your offensive abilities.

Hit Rating

Hit Rating is the second stat that you will require in order to not miss your offensive spells — you certainly do not want to miss your burst phase. In order to make sure that you will never miss in a PvP encounter, you will want a 5% Hit Rating.

Spell Penetration

Spell Penetration is a stat that you require in order to pierce your enemy’s resistances. The soft cap for Spell Penetration is 75, however, you will want 130 Spell Penetration to reach the optimum spell piercing effect against most classes.

Spell Power

Spell Power is an innate stat to all casters in the game, it enhances the healing or damaging capabilities of our spells. You will receive Spell Power from your gear and enchants, but you should also add spell power gems if your resilience is high enough.

Haste

Once you manage to cap your other stats, Haste becomes one of the most powerful stats that you can acquire. You should always try to prioritize haste gear over critical strike chance gear. The more haste you acquire, the faster you will kill your enemies.

Critical Strike Chance

Critical Strike Chance is pretty much self-explanatory, you will not want to stack critical strike chance under any circumstance — just be content with the amount that you already have from your gear.

Hit Rating

Hit Rating is the second stat that you will require in order to not miss your offensive spells — you certainly do not want to miss your burst phase. In order to make sure that you will never miss in a PvP encounter, you will want a 5% Hit Rating.

Soft spell hit cap in PvP is 4% (amount of hit required to hit target of the same level as a caster). 6% is a hard cap (2% increased miss chance vs shadow/magic for undead or draenei / blood elf). But no amount of hit rating will let you to “never miss in a PvP encounter” because hit rating does not offset hit chance reduction from talents (ret paladin/sub rogue).
