I'd imagine they'll need to add all the classic files onto the current client. Right now I only have 11gb free on my Macbook Pro's windows partition and I'm worrying if that will be enough or not.

This also got me thinking if my current laptop (2013 maxed out 13" mbpro) would be enough to play classic without FPS issues. On one hand, it's an old game and should run flawlessly here, but on the other, they said they're running on the current engine (which maxes me out at 40 fps).

Anyone have any idea?

I imagine Classic will be an extra seperate entire download, yes. @teebling shared a screenshot from the closed beta download on the Bnet launcher showing at least about 8 GB to download so far. Also, I'm not sure how partioned harddrives work, but for maxmimum system performance it's always good to have around 10% of your hard drive free.

In terms of performance - Depends when you last played. If you are saying you getting 40fps on the current engine in say a Battle For Azeroth zone - you are probably going to get better performance in the older zones (The Barrens, Elwynn Forest, Orgrimmar, Stormwind) as they tend to have less detail/ground clutter/vegetation/light effects/particle systems etc because of how they were designed at the time. As far as I know there is some sort of system to "toggle" between the "retail" wow graphics and the vanilla ones - so I imagine if you played with the vanilla setttings there are going to be more performance increases again. Sorry that's not a very definitive answer.

it will be a extra download like the demo. For the fps it depends if you have stable 40 fps in BFA or just when questing. Classic will less demand on Hardware but raids and main Hubs will still be a issue.

Can confirm, the download is about 8GB. Uncompressed it is 8.35GB. Mac OS X Mojave.

I'm playing on a SHIT Macbook Air at the moment from 2015 which doesn't even have dedicated graphics. It's on a 1.6GHz i5 with Intel HD 5000 integrated graphics. The system 'recommends' a setting of '3' for me, which I was actually pleasantly surprised by (thought I'd have to run it on baaaare minimum). No anti-aliasing of course but it's very smooth - I have the 'classic' graphics selected so it looks identical to vanilla screenshots I've seen for comparison, and doesn't require a great deal of power as a result. You can run classic very nicely on anything mate, is my conclusion.

I own a late-2013 maxed out 13" mbp, so my experience should be somewhat similar to yours. Sucks that I'll still have to set everything to low, even with 2005 graphics. I should probably buy a desktop in the next 100 days.

Just out of curiosity, whats the average FPS you're getting in leveling zones? And in city?

For this week's stress test they had you "install" it into the live directory. It appears it will share portions of the data files with the modern version to save space. Not sure on how much though.

I played this week's stress test as well, which answered my original question about performance:

On a 2015 Macbook Air (8gb ram, i5) It was a ~6gb extra download, and with everything on low, I was able to level in Dun Morogh constantly above 60 fps. I imagine that inside capital cities or raids this number should drop by a third.
