The latest official Forever podcast mentioned the developers are watching. So on the off chance they're watching here, let them riddle me this.
Why are the dwarves getting the short end of the stick? Pun intended.
This will mainly revolve around hunters. Consider the following. Dwarf Hunter is the most iconic race and class combo. The intro cinematic for WoW has a dwarf hunter. Then the intro cinematic for Forever has the same dwarf hunter. Even in WC3, dwarf rifelemen are one of the most key alliance units. They're the backbone of most strats, be it the classic rifle-caster, or the cheesy pala-rifle.
But then if we discount Skyborne, who have weak racials presumably to prove to the community they're not a pay 2 win race, dwarves are the worst hunter race.
Human hunters are beyond OP. Free anti-stun trinket - phenomenal for pvp, great for some pve. Stealth detection, again phenomenal for pvp, useful for those quests where you're hunting stealthed mobs like the STV panthers. +2% free crit for everything if you wear a sword. Keep in mind - hunters can wear swords. Extra spirit - all hunter specs have a way to regen mana in combat, so spirit is good.
Nelf hunters are solid. +10% crit chance burst window - great. Shadowmeld - great for pvp, also great for hunters to transfer all threat to the pet. And if you have a cat as a pet, you can be a sneaky git and ambush people like you're a stealth class. +1% dodge - nice for survival. +2% move speed - good for kiting. Wisp spirit - nice to have for the inevitable wipes.
What do dwarves get? Stoneform for damage resistance - who cares - and for anti bleed, poison, disease, which has limited uses and none of them help you do damage. Find Treasure - at least it doesn't conflict with other trackings. It's still not too useful if you know roughly where all the chests spawn. Mace specialization - a cruel joke. Beyond the fact it's 1%, 50% as effective as the human racial, hunters can't even wear maces. So compared to human hunters, dwarf hunters straight up have 2% less crit. But they do 5% more damage to beasts. Wow.
You have to be entirely unconcerned with your performance to roll a dwarf hunter. And that's the race/class that's the most WoW. That doesn't seem right at all.
Then if we're talking priests, I have little experience with the class, but dwarves used to have a great racial priest spell in Fear Ward. And now every priest has it. Instead dwarves get a couple of weak ones. I'm no expert on priests, but even just comparing dwarves with gnomes, you can see the difference. Dwarves get a 2 minute cooldown 2 second single target root. Gnomes get a 2 minute cooldown 3 second AoE fear. The 0.5 cast time for the gnomes isn't close enough to offset such a gap in utility.
We can also get into how human paladins will get 2% crit and dwarf paladins will get 1%. All this makes rolling a dwarf as anything other than a shaman a dubious proposition. Give us viable dwarf hunters, Blizzard.
