The new WC3 campaign appears to go heavy on the whole Forsaken Paladin theme. Not done with it yet, but it appears to be setting up the first undead pally, while covering the founding of the Undercity and Scarlet Crusade. You also get to run around with Garithos as an abom.
I'm soooooo tempted to get it. Tell me how it is, and how Reforged is going in general. I was such a *huge* WC3 fan. I played WC1 and 2, but 3 was the first time I was actually old enough to really understand how the game works and follow the story completely. It holds a special place in my heart, and I was kinda gutted when Reforged was so botched on release. I've heard they'd done a somewhat decent job at reviving it, though, and I'm interested in the new campaign.
They kept working on Reforged after they dropped it. They fixed some things, abondoned others. But it's mostly in a good spot right now. Some quality of life stuff it adds now is very welcome, small things like convenient key rebinding, better camera controls, hotkey tooltips on skills. They've added a bunch of features, and yoinked some from community ladders.
But the best part is that they're putting out regular balance patches that have been pretty good. And that keeps the PvP side of the game fresh.
As for the new expansion, it's pretty nice. Has some annoying stuff, but more good than bad. The new "Definitive" graphics could use some work, but they grow on you. Initially I wasn't a fan, but after playing through the new campaign, the original graphics now look weird to me. I did not expect that. They still need to work on performance and fixing some effects, but it's definitely a solid effort.
The campaign itself is full on Rexxar-style. There's no base-building, and it's basically an RPG campaign. It has both pros and cons. But it should be way more approachable for WoW players this way. It's well written, which was a pleasant surprise. The memories of Shadowlands and the Jailer are still fresh in my mind. But there's none of that here. And playing the Forever beta, I was surprised by how much they integrated the campaign into WoW. The new undead paladin area is dedicated to the guy you play in the campagin. There are some crossover events. And there's a new quest giver for Ruins of Lordaeron near Sylvanas who mentions it too. So they definitely put effort into it.
