I’m Caperfin. Questions? see my Livestream: https://www.twitch.tv/caperfin

Intro
World of Warcraft is a large game with thousands of items and spells, keeping track of the relevant ones can be daunting and forgetting some is the only obstacle between you and becoming a great shaman tank. I suggest installing an addon or my Weakaura Plugin, that tracks present buffs and missing buffs. This guide assumes the previously mentioned tools are being used. If you have aspirations of raid tanking, get acquainted with Stratholme Undead for Wail of the Banshee, really good tanks try the secret Wail tech.
Name
Your secondary name and guild name will help others remember and attribute your accomplishments more easily. Familiarity/recognition is key as it will help you get into groups quicker. Your secondary/guild name should be in some form associated to tanking, ex: ShamanTank.
Race
Tauren: https://www.wowhead.com/forever/spell=20550/endurance is king. Next is Dwarf: https://www.wowhead.com/forever/spell=20594/stoneform.
SpoilerShow
Your threat is within your total control but survival is less so, especially with a pug healer.
Endurance scales with the abundance of stamina needed to solve mitigation problems.
Stoneform is similar but only mitigates physical damage and requires constant attention for optimal usage.
Professions
1. Primary: Mining 5% Health. Tailoring: Embroidery. NOTE: Don't have a 2nd account? go Tailoring & Enchanting for DE Shuffling.
2. Secondary: First Aid has Plague Doctor's Laboratory. Fishing has Fish Bowl.
SpoilerShow
NOTE: If you don't have a 2nd account or cant play much, you'll be DE Shuffling, when not tanking.
Mining has 5% Health to helps us lessen the negative impact of a pug healer.
Tailoring has Embroidery(stam) for the same reason.
First Aid has Plague Doctor's Laboratory, use even if priest is present.
Fishing has Fish Bowl giving all 8% to stats, this frees up a paladin to cast Blessing of Salvation on others.
Threat
Dungeons are about pulling a lot of mobs quickly. So, we focus on AoE threat, ex: https://www.wowhead.com/forever/item=89 ... immolation, https://www.wowhead.com/forever/item=11 ... stal-spire, etc...
Also the threat of others is lessened with https://www.wowhead.com/forever/spell=1 ... -salvation.
SpoilerShow
Aim to use passive long lasting effects, avoid items that share a cooldown with defensive items.
Full list of AoE/threat effects:
- Rockbiter Weapon
- Crystal Spire
- Gift of Arthas
- Thorns
- Retribution Aura
Talents
There is one talent setup: 22/22/7
SpoilerShow
Earth's Grasp will aggro and tank the mob(s) you haven't produce threat on yet.
Imp.Lightning Shield further increases our threat on a random mob.
Call of Flame improves the damage of Fire Nova, our main way to deal AoE threat.
Elemental Focus aids in mana conservation since each instance of damage caused by Fire Nova can proc it.
Elemental Reach helps Fire Nova hit ranged mobs and helps the pull/run Flame Shock tactic.
Rotation
The rotation is simple and kept simple for the purpose of energy conservation as we deal with the tribulations of a Pug.
1. Pull: Flame Shock and Lightning Shield.
2. Run to next pack while spamming: Searing Totem and Fire Nova.
3. Mobs are gathered up: Searing Totem, Fire Nova, Oil of Immolation.
4. Constantly: Fire Nova.
Have the energy to spare? if so, Caustic Smog Potion.
Gear/Enchants
Stamina is key, followed by Spellpower and lastly Intellect.
The current Bis gear setup: (((((TBD)))))
Transmogrification/Dressing BiS setup: (((((TBD)))))
Group Comp
The ideal group to form/join and classes to look out for: Discipline Priest, Balance Druid, Retribution Paladin and Fury Warrior.
SpoilerShow
Discipline Priest: Power Word Fortitude, Divine Aegis, Shadow Protection.
Balance Druid: Thorns, Mark of the Wild.
Ret Paladin: Blessing of Salvation, Retribution Aura.
Fury Warrior: Commanding Shout.
Macros
Time is precious, we do not chat with each person who doubts shaman tanking, they say no/hesitant then move on.
Social Macros in order:
- Login and ready to tank for the day: " /dnd Full knowledge of class spec and ALL bosses. Full dung exp. BiS gear/consumes. "
- The invite/request message sent to others if LFG or LFM: " ok with bis Tanking Shaman? ".
- All members enter the dungeon: " /p Commanding Shout, Blessing of Salvation, Retribution Aura on all. /run UnitSetRole("YourToonNameHere", "TANK") "
- Next: " /p Power Word Fort, Shadow Protection, Mark of the Wild, Thorns on me but not Blessing of Salvation. /use Magic Resistance Potion "
- Lastly: " /p Follow star, shaman is tank. /run if UnitExists("YourToonNameHere") then if GetRaidTargetIndex("YourToonNameHere")~=6 then SetRaidTarget("YourToonNameHere",1) end end "
Personal Macros in order:
- At dungeon door:" /target YourToonNameHere /castsequence reset=target Scroll of Protection IV, Scroll of Agility IV, Scroll of Strength IV, Scroll of Stamina IV, null "
- Next: /target YourToonNameHere /castsequence reset=target Crystal Spire, Rumsey Rum Black Label, Elixir of Fortitude, Scroll of Intellect IV, Scroll of Spirit IV, null
- Lastly: /target YourToonNameHere /castsequence reset=target Rockbiter Weapon, Tender Wolf Steak, null
Combat Macros in order:
- All pulled mobs are gathered: " /cancelaura Blessing of Salvation /castsequence reset=6 Searing Totem, Fire Nova, Oil of Immolation, Lightning Shield "
Addons
- ArkInventory, bag addon to categorize items.
- Scrap, assign certain items to be auto vendored, includes quest items and items with no sell price.
- Prat, chat addon, if very experienced at tanking, I suggest check marking "Disable Flash for Whisper".
- Elvui, essentially a UI overhaul, I suggest installing my profile.
- Annoying Popup Remover, removes the distracting red text above your head, ex: not enough mana.
- Cell, unit frame addon. I suggest installing my minimalistic profile.
- LeatrixPlus, quality of life features.
- LeatrixMaps, sizeable map. Useless in dungeons but useful when out in the open.
- PlainAutoMail, assigns certain items to be auto mailed to your second toon nearby the AH.
- WeakAuras, versatile addon. IMPORTANT: Install my Buff Display plugin: https://wago.io/q53sTkWaj

Sounds neat.

Quick question - are we supposed to be using a shield like a real tank or does Forever still do that Classic thing where tanks are supposed to be using two-handers?

For dungeon tanking, you stick with a shield, at any moment your healer can go AFK or get lost.
For raid tanking, you equip a two hander whenever you loose aggro on a mob which is likely due to a boss mechanic that resets threat. A good raid tank will activate all possible damage increasing abilities when two-handing, ex: Rage of the Farseer, Stormstrike, etc.
