In WoW, Tailoring is one of the most useful professions for cloth wearers of any class. It involves turning the cloth you lot from mobs throughout Azeroth into high-powered gear like Spellslinger's Slippers and Royal Moonshroud Robe. In TBC, Blizzard also added Embroidery, which are Tailor specific enchants, like Sapphire Spellthread, that can greatly increase the stats on gear. Like Engineers, Tailors also make profession specific mounts, like the Frosty Flying Carpet.

Because Tailoring uses loot dropped from monsters, there is no explicit gathering profession that it is paired with. Instead, players usually choose to level Enchanting coterminously, disenchanting the excess gear for dusts and essences. There are also no items required to purchase in order to start leveling, so once you train in Apprentice, you can immediately begin!

Training Tailoring Old World Like most professions, trainers in any major capital can start you off by teaching you Apprentice Tailoring, and you can return to them until you reach Artisan. Outland Once you cross into Outland, your Master trainers will be in the first questing area for you faction. The Alliance will need to find Hama at Honor Hold, and the Horde must speak with Dalinna in Thrallmar. Once you have access to Shattrath, Weaver Aoa of The Aldor and Miralisse of The Scryers are also available to train you. Specialization (All in Lower City, Shattrath) In TBC, Blizzard added three Tailoring Specializations, which allow players to choose between expertise with different types of cloth. Like most specializations, however, in WotLK, they lost a significant amount of importance. Each still provides a slight advantage, and they’re discussed in more detail in the last section of this guide. The trainers for them are:

• Nasmara Moonsong – Mooncloth
• Andrion Darkspinner – Shadoweave
• Gidge Spellweaver – Spellfire

Northrend After arriving in Northrend, you’ll find your Grand Master Trainers in your first questing area. For the Alliance, this means finding Darin Goodstitch in Valiance Keep, and for the Horde, Raenah in Warsong Hold will do the same. *As this is a power leveling guide, however, the most recommended trainer, if you have access to Dalaran, is Charles Worth in the Magus Commerce Exchange. His proximity to the Auction House and the portals able to take you elsewhere to farm are invaluable. Both factions can also learn from Dustin Vail at the Argent Tournament Grounds.
Types of Cloth While all the materials for Tailoring can be purchased from the Auction House, it may be more cost-effective at certain points to farm for your own cloth. All cloth drops from humanoid mobs, and the type depends on the mob’s level. Below is a list of zones to farm in:

From 295 – 300, there are two options. The first is either purchasing or finding Pattern: Runecloth Headband and crafting it for the last 5 levels. The other is heading to Outland and starting on Netherweave bolts sooner. Either is viable. 295 – 300: Runecloth Headband

• Combine Bolt of Runecloth and Rune Thread to make Runecloth Headbands.

Once you’ve finished making the headbands, you can cross through the Dark Portal and learn Master Tailoring. Outland 300 – 325: Bolt of Netherweave (craft x145 total)

• Convert Netherweave Cloth into Bolts of Netherweave Cloth.

Before continuing, you’ll need to go to Lower City in Shattrath and purchase Pattern: Bolt of Imbued Netherweave from Eiin. This is also a great time to pick up Pattern: Netherweave Tunic for the end of this tier. 325 – 335: Bolt of Imbued Netherweave

• Imbue Bolt of Netherweave with Arcane Dust to make Bolts of Imbued Netherweave.

Endgame Tailoring Specializations Tailoring has 3 Specializations: Mooncloth, Spellfire, and Shadoweave. While each had specific sets to craft in TBC, Blizzard has changed their purpose in WotLK. Now, they offer you the chance to proc an additional piece of cloth when you craft Moonshroud, Spellweave, or Ebonweave. All of the specialization quests begin from Lower City in Shattrath.

• To specialize in Mooncloth Tailoring, you must take the quest Becoming a Mooncloth Tailor from Nasmara Moonsong. Then, you’ll need to head over to Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh.
  • This will give you the chance to proc additional Moonshroud.
• For Spellfire Tailoring, you’ll need to find Gidge Spellweaver and begin. She’ll send you out to Netherstorm, and then you return back to Shattrath.
  • Spellweave is Spellfire’s proc.
• To specialize in Shadoweave Tailoring Andrion Darkspinner is the trainer. He’ll offer Becoming a Shadoweave Tailor, which sends you to the Altar of Shadows in Shadowmoon Valley.
  • Shadoweave Tailors proc on Ebonweave.

Embroidery, Bags, and Mounts Blizzard added Embroidery — Tailor specific enchants that cause items to become Soulbond — to diversify Tailoring in TBC. In WotLK, it takes the form of two Spellthread patterns. Each is only available for purchase after reaching Exalted reputation with the necessary faction, and is sold by the respective Quartermasters listed below. The two Embroideries are:

  • Veteran Crusader Aliocha Segard – Argent Crusade
• Pattern: Sapphire Spellthread
  • Archmage Alvareaux – Kirin Tor

Bags are another vital, and potentially profitable item created by Tailors at all levels. In WotLK, Profession and Class bags got bumped up to 32 slots, and bags for all players were increased to 22. While some of the patterns are available to learn from trainers, there are three that require specific reputation levels to purchase from faction’s Quartermasters. They are:

• Pattern: Glacial Bag
  • Lillehoff – Exalted, Sons of Hodir
• Pattern: Mysterious Bag

Like Engineering, Tailoring is able to craft its own mounts: Flying Carpets. Two — the Flying Carpet and the Magnificent Flying Carpet are each taught by trainers, and can be learned once you reach an appropriate skill level. Frosty Flying Carpet, on the other hand, is learned by purchasing Pattern: Frosty Flying Carpet from Frozo the Renowned in Dalaran for 6x Frozen Orb Raiding Patterns Like all crafting professions, Tailoring patterns have a small chance to drop (or be purchased) from each of the raiding tiers in WotLK. These patterns create Epic, BoE gear, some of which is BiS or pre-raiding BiS. These items are constantly in high demand and Tailors who know these patterns become incredibly important to raiding groups and guilds or stand to make a good amount of gold from selling their services.

• In Ulduar, Belt and Boot patterns drop from all the bosses and caches. They include:
  • Pattern: Sash of Ancient Power
  • Pattern: Spellslinger's Slippers
  • Pattern: Cord of the White Dawn
  • Pattern: Savior's Slippers

• In ToC, bosses drop patterns for chest pieces and bracers. They are:
  • Pattern: Royal Moonshroud Robe
  • Pattern: Royal Moonshroud Bracers
  • Pattern: Merlin's Robe
  • Pattern: Bejeweled Wizard's Bracers

• For the price of 1 Primordial Saronite, Tailors can buy ICC patterns from Alchemist Finklestein on the Lower Level of the Citadel. They’re for legs and boots, and they include:

  • Pattern: Lightweave Leggings
  • Pattern: Sandals of Consecration
