If you're up for some nostalgia and a blast form the past, a WC3 community member recenlty created a site - https://war3replays.com/ that lets you watch a bunch of classic WC3 game replays directly in your browser.

This means you don't need to even own the game, not to mention mess with all the different version mismatches. You click on a replay and it boots it up directly in your browser. And the best part - it acts as a replay so you control the camera and can freely move around. It's not just a recorded video of the game.

Already there are some legendary games in there, from both the RoC and TFT eras, and I believe the plan is to add more in the future. Currently it can lag somewhat, but considering that most of those games were either lost to time, or preserved on youtube in like 144p resolution, this is great progress already.

There are some super cool things there. Like a small timer overlay over the progress bar so you don't see how much time is left in a replay and can't guess who wins based on that.

It also shows the APM, and exact build orders before you even get into the replay. Along with a bunch of other info.

For some reason sound doesn't work for me, though, despite there being a sound button. Still, what a feat of engineering.

Try using a different browser or reloading the page. It may fix it.

Also, the site keeps adding new replays and things, so it's all a big work in progress.

Hi all! Thank you for talking about it, I built it and it was a hell lot of work! I've been working on a lot of improvements since launch a couple of days ago and I will now tackle any bugs that come up and optimize for less legs etc.!

Thanks for making this thing, Chico. It's a real blast from the past. Scrambling to find these replays to watch and learn from back in the day when the internet was still young and youtube didn't even exist was a grand quest. And these days with all the versions, it's even more impossible. Having them to watch in such a convenient way is great.

This is seriously impressive work! I’m really curious about the technical side of it. How did you manage to get what seems to be essentially the entire Warcraft III game engine running in the browser?
