Backstory
Ever since I've been playing original vanilla WoW, I've been wondering if there were any 'wowhead' addons, something like putting a little browser box in your game so you didn't have to alt + tab all the time (also not something like Steam overlay). Something that's on your screen at all times (should you not choose to hide it). I was dissapointed and eventually just forgot about the idea all together, untill now...
How it came to be
I was meddling around in Visual Basic (lol, I know), opening my old projects from almost 10 years ago and I accidentally figured out how to make an overlay; I started playing around some more and eventually within a couple of days I figured out I'd set myself up with a quest to finish the 'wowhead addon' application-wise by the time Classic ships! I've been making this program for 2-3 hours / week for the past 5 months, and a prototype is finally here!
What is it?
Over(p)lay is a standalone program which sits in front of any application, meaning it does NOT inject anything into WoW, it is as if you opened any other app (Chrome, Steam, Notepad...), it is just a transparent screen with browsers/custom apps on top. Your WoW MUST BE in windowed mode for this app to work on top of it. It is not a keylogger (you can first fire up your WoW, log in to your character and then run Over(p)lay), nor does it send any data my, or anyone elses' way. The program contains custom webbrowsers like Google, WoWHead, WoW Forums, Armory, Youtube, Facebook etc. It has a calculator, media player and a more sophisticated webbrowser for all other websites!
How to use it?
Here is a shitty website I made and integrated it into the program / imgur alternative (use the (?) mark in top-right corner of the options menu in the program), you can view some screenshots here
Known bugs:
- Calculator uses comma (,) as a decimal separator only. Period (.) support will be added.
- Deleting favorites in the webbrowser component can sometimes be unsuccessfull. Will be fixed in the next update.
- Deleting stuff from your media player playlist is currently bugged. I'll try and fix this by the next update.
- (Not a bug but an option) - Resetting the layout resets history, favorites and the playlist. I'll put seperate buttons for each in the next update.
The reason I didn't fix these is because I'm currently flooded by exams and this isn't my primary project, also trying to catch up with last minute bug fixes is not ideal - however if this does get some notoriety, I'll be sure to update it regularly, make a decent website and make it look more professional.
