Hi, classic is at the door KNOCKING. On my main account I have playtime for about 1 1/2 years worth or abit more from wow tokens with the current price (thank you legion class hall I suck at money making and dont care that much about how much money I got). This got me thinking I would be willing to pay for a 2nd account to gain some gold/different professions/ boost my twinks etc and to show support so we maybe get classic+ or tbc next.
The question is, can you think of ways how would it be beneficial to have a 2nd account apart from the few things I just mentioned. And any tips what software/How to make grinding money easier etc is very much appreciated.
I wont be dualboxing all the time if I go ahead with this. More of a utilizing traveling time to do fishing on the 2nd account etc. My first char atleast is gonna be leveled solo, then perhaps dualbox with a alt.
Edit*dualbox not multibox
Any multiboxing discussion welcome!

my advice is if you do this be sure to stick to a main character and dont let people calling you a cheater put you off

I usually define multiboxing as using more than one account simultaneously while being connected/scripted together and allowing the player to play multiple accounts at one time. Typically I think of this in a combat regard. Using an alt account for the auction house or fishing or whatever will be super common place. Many of us will be doing this. Is it advantageous? Of course. How will I use it? That sort of depends. Multiboxing will be used far less than alt accounts though due to the effort and complexity and also, the questionable pay off.
I will probably opt to run a mage with leatherworking and attempt to buy thick leather for cheap. I will then craft nightscape tunics and vendor them. If I buy the thick leather underneath a certain threshold I make constant profit for AFKing and watching my character craft while spamming trade for "WTB thick leather C.O.D...." As a mage I can also sell food/water and ports. Allowing me to further the value of this stationary character. I can also monitor the AH and control certain items. All without moving from the auctionhouse. All the advertisement done with a few premade macros. I can leave my computer for VERY prolonged periods of time if I have a full inventory of leather.
I will also have alts that I position early on. Some of my positions include rare vendor spawns that allow me to purchase cheap patterns and relist them for a profit, an alt early on in the STV arena to grab chests and hop between layers (cooldown hopping between layers wont affect this because chests are on a long respawn timer anyhow and will mostly be uncontested early on), or even running an early toon to grab some first aid books to grab some quick gold. I have a whole list of valuable items that I can sit level 1's beside and gain profit passively. Every once in awhile I log onto each of them, collect my free money and go back onto my alt account to make gold with ports and crafting while playing the AH.
I think fishing is more effort than it is worth in most cases, even in this context. If I had the time to fish, id rather be spending it casually leveling a twinked alt from 1-35 so that I can max out two proffesions and sell cooldowns every day for some extra passive income. Though the value of fish depends on the market and the market for fish will hopefully be different than it was on private due to the shear quantity of bots on private.

I plan to dual box both for levelling and gold making. I'm going to have complimentary classes that are good for dungeon duoing and elite farming. I'm torn between Priest/Warrior for all around viability or Rogue/Druid for stealth boss runs. I've heard great things about pally/mage for aoe grinding dungeons, but I'm not particularly drawn to those classes.
Im only going to focus on one main though, so while my main is travelling to dungeons or waiting on folks, etc, my alt account can go herb/fish.
Edit: rereading your post you also asked about software. Personally, I'm using hotkeynet and macros in wow. HKN is free, but you might have to open text files and do minor scripting. As far as terms of service go, just ensure you're only broadcasting one key to your wow client at a time, and you're in the clear there. ISBoxer also gets good reviews and is supposedly easier to setup. I haven't tried it, and it has a $50 per year subscription IIRC.
I mainly will drive from my dps character, and use a variety of /assist<mainCharName> [harm][noharm] macros to quickly Target heals/dots.

-i use isboxer. i think it is the most used mb-software for world of warcraft.
-very simple to configure if you are cool with having the basic functions like broadcasting hotkeys, assist, follow, interact with target.
It is configurable within 5 minutes over the install wizard from the software.
-But it offers way more cool stuff like videofx. With video fx you can stream a custom field of your alts client like the group frames or the minimap and make it shown up on your mains client. things like mouseover healing while playing on your main (not the healer) will be possible with it. And the minimap thing (same technique) is also nice. You can farm herb+mining by only looking on one client.
-lots of how to videos out there. The best ones are from multiboxology / mirae
-make use of their discord. friendly people there, staff and other users are answering all your questions
-NO i am not working for isboxer but I am using it and preparing for classic aswell. before isboxer i was using trough wow cata a mb-software called octopus (free). was very basic and working for me. maybe it is still existing.
- if you run in a caster+melee or 2caster combo and you just want a simple hotkey bar on your main which presses the same button with your alt client. If that is enough you might don't need to purchase something.
-a nice gold farming option on 60 as dualboxer will be DM:east in server phase 2. you will need almost prebis 60 to make this work smooth and one of your chars must be a healer or at least be a hybrid. Aoe dmg and tank dmg mitigration is also nice plus you want mining on one of your chars, enchanting and herbalism optional.
You jump down, you kill the water boss and the satyr boss upstairs. you run b through the garden, checking for the classbook spawn spots, eventually gather the herbs around, you speak with the big tree and he opens the gate to the endboss. Then kill the endboss and farm the 2 or 3 rich thorium veins behind the boss. repeat. optional: invite more people to make it more fast / sellrun it -lots of prebis items are dropping there.

Ooh, you can do mouseover healing on unit frames from the non healer window? That might be the killer feature I needed to justify the cost.
Tank/heal the dungeon sounds pretty awesome, but would need some serious practice and/or willing guinnea pigs.

I set up isboxer for the first time during the last stress test, I won't say it is intuitive, however it is pretty easy to get up and running with basic functionality using some assist macros etc. (I didn't try their addon) I feel like the software is really powerful though and I have only scratched the surface of what is possible.

Yes you can. isboxer has a feature that lets you view segments of another window (your healer's) on your main window and mouseover macros work. A free alternative is hotkeynet that lets you punch holes in your main window so you can see windows behind your main window. You can line up your healer's party/raid frames with the hole in your main window and mouseover macros also work. IMO the isboxer implementation is easier to set up and more flexible but I used hotkeynet method on the last stress and it worked fine for my purposes.

Power boosting and enchanting come to mind.
It sure makes levelling a lot quicker when your main is a high level. sometimes groups either miss or skip past quest objectives and it really bugs me, I like to do every dungeon quest because they reward a lot of exp, so having a 60 to clear everything is very beneficial.
You can keep farming dungeons to get the gear you need too.
If you don't want to pay for an enchanter to enchant your blacksmith/mining warrior it might help to have an alt with enchanting to enchant your gear,
why you would want to level a character to 300/300 just to enchant your warrior I don't know.
