I did it. I tried my best to avoid it in the past year, but I fell for it again.
I re-rolled on a private server. And I already planned a good part of the leveling/profession route as usual.
I know I will drop it when Classic is out, I choose a different race/class combination from the one I will play on Classic, but I NEEDED to play some Vanilla WoW. I tried to play other games, but after playing ~1 hour each I didn't find anything to really get hooked on.
I resisted for nearly one year, but I guess it was time to play some more.
I promised myself I will not burn out before August end :D
Anyone recently re-rolled somewhere?

Hydraxian Waterlords - RP - EU
- Fendor - Tauren Shaman
- Ildebrando - Dwarf Hunter
- Osandiron - Dwarf Priest

I keep starting and immediately stopping because the time is going to be irrelevant once Classic release and I don't want to burn out, besides it's super close already. Next month
Then I just proceed to think about Classic and finding everything boring.
I only play a game when a friend is on for Divinity Original Sin 2 so we can continue the save, but that is about it :3

You think you do, but you don’t

Hi, my name’s fendor and I’m addicted to Classic WoW.
*everyone* HI FENDOR

Happens to the best of us, Fendor. Personally, I’ve abstained for longer than I expected! I’m saving myself for Classic ;)

I have been playing on private servers for years and I keep telling myself to wait, wait, wait as it's coming officially in less than 2 months.
no point in levelling my warrior any further so I have been doing speed runs to see how fast i can reach lvl20 in preparation for release.

It is impossible to burnout if you pace yourself. Are you having fun? Are you enjoying it? You made the right call!
I have been enjoying private. Based on what we are seeing with Classic there will be a lot of meaningful changes from private to Classic. This means that the private experience will be unique in contrast to retail vanilla (as there are many notable differences between vanilla and pservers) and to Classic. Once I play Classic, I will be happy that I got to experience the 3 variants of original WoW. Each will be glorious in their own right.
Vanilla was uncharted territory... A world that was bigger than myself. A new genre for me and a new evolution in gaming. Taking MMO's mainstream. I learned and grew throughout the course of vanilla and went from being a keyboard turning clicker to a better version of a keyboard turner, and that was good enough to carry me given the competition.
Years later I found private and I got to implement all I had learned as a gamer for over a decade. I was in the deep end with the sharks... 10-12k users on a PvP server with minimal moderation. A bloodbath of alpha predators ripping eachother apart for the sake of ripping eachother apart. Increased content release cycle! The meta is pretty fleshed out at this point. It is common practice to apply the cumulative knowledge of millions of players to your playstyle just to be viewed as a mediocre player. A TOTALLY different vibe and totally different mindset in both PvP and PvE. Players who play this content over and over and over... Nothing is uncharted. Thought this wasnt a perfect version... Private left so much to be desired. Inaccuracies leaving us to question the validity of what we were doing. The looming threat of uncertainty due to servers being hosted privately... We wanted a true Blizzard experience.
And now Classic... What will it be? How will it be different? I have very limited expectations and look forward to exploring the next variant of the game. I almost imagine it as a halfway point between the two former variants of the game. We will have SO many tourists that are exploring uncharted territory for the first time. We will also have vetran gamers with a chip on their shoulder. Unfinished business that they mean to take care of... The servers will be fragmented into silo'd layers so we wont see the PvP bloodbath we seen on private. The meta will be promoted to new players through prevalent content creators and information will be FAR more accessible than it used to be. While private server players are the minority, their information is magnified through influencers. What changes will come from the Blizzard client and what numbers were gravely miscalculated on private? What does this mean? What will this change? How do leeway and spell batching impact the meta? How will this impact my experience? We wont know until we have experienced Classic. I am excited to find out.
Your time on private isn't wasted. While I am excited for the start of Classic, I will miss private. You are experiencing the last few weeks of private, don't waste it if you enjoy it.

I looked around on some private servers, but every time I leveled up to 10 or so, I just couldn't bring myself to play them anymore.
"All the effort I put in would be pointless, since there was only X many days before classic launches" was my train of tought.
Plus I want to write the leveling adventures of Gallow (shameless self advertisement) with fresh eyes. I think for me (and the story) the sense of actually discovering things would be less exciting if I practiced leveling on a private server.
I also worry about burning myself. But if you are able to play it and not get burned, more power to you!

i can't wait, and at times i'd login to my lvl 39 rogue and do a few quests to get a general feel of the class ( to help me decide) but i suddenly alt-f4 because i don't want this to be a habit and spoil the game for me. i will diligently wait, to savor all my effort and excitement for the official thing !

I did the same thing. I'm on a private TBC server playing different race and class combinations than I plan to play on classic. I don't think I'll get burned out. Just passing time and getting back into the swing of things.

It was insanely hard for me when it was like +60 days for Classic, but now that it comes out next month I think I have the demons inside me under control until Classic launches.
Ten Storms EU Alliance
Finnigan - Dwarf Hunter Lvl 30
Portalmaster - Gnome Mage Lvl 19
Shaelur - Dwarf Paladin Lvl 22
Shaelus - Night Elf Druid Lvl 50
I also relapsed. Trying out different classes on Retro since there are still a few classes I haven't played and therefore don't really know aything about.

The anticipation of the release of classic is unbearable!
They should not have announced anything about classic at all!
Then just release it when it's ready with a quick....Hey guys, BTW you can play Classic WOW now....lol
Wouldn't be able to prepare for it but that's what sicks days are for!

| Nýxt - Demonology Warlock | Kirtonos PVP | Level 50 | - | Awkaran - Resto Druid | Kirtonos PVP | Level 20 |
| Fatherbatch - Holy Priest | Kirtonos PVP | Level 1 | - | Reignmaker - Frost Mage | Kirtonos PVP | Level 1 |

I'm the same I couldn't resist but I said to myself that I wouldn't level past 20 so I can keep the game still exciting beyond that point

You're not alone OP.
I've done it many times; I keep telling myself that it'll be irrelevant once Classic arrives but I can't help myself.
I'll start a toon, get to about level 10ish then snap out of it.
38 days.
