Just installed Retail and wanted to play lv20's BG's with my "twink" spend a few hours downloading the client.
2hs of gameplay and already uninstalled. Seeing those Bg's oh my.... look how they massacred my twinks.

Retail is not an option, I guess I'll plant some seeds on my garden and watch'em grow.
Day 1: I'm already losing it.

Plan every little bit of your progression. What quest to do when, contingencies for when that quest is overcrowded, under exactly what conditions an instance run would be worth the time, weapon progression (especially if you're a rogue/warrior/hunter), progression of your leveling buddies. Then add in your plans for the economy: professions, early investments, the most time/gold-effective pre-raid BiS gear.

IRL plans: fitness + diet, meal prep, caffeine, good hydration habits. Learn some good stretches so you can limber up during a flight path and avoid lower back pain. When you're tired and dehydrated you make shit decisions and die more. I bought a nice bottle with timestamps on it and I haven't had dehydration problems since. There was this Eve Online player that stocked up on peanut butter and intravenous bags so he only had liquid waste and never had to leave his desk. It earned him a seizure. Do not recommend.

I do a little bit of research during my morning coffee but I know I'll probably still feel unprepared come release.

Why even play when your game is already orchestrated 😁 The only thing missing anymore is a bot playin.

Nah, the game is too damn big and too random to forsake anyone but the most experienced hardcore speedrunners from improvising. I can't orchestrate when I'll get ganked, what items will drop, what the economy will look like, which of my friends will be on and when...

It's like a weeks-long battle royale match. I can't wait.

Well, just do whatever allows you to have the most fun when classic comes around. For me, these past few months I have been lurking the forums, discords and youtubes, to get more knowledge of the game and make some kind of plan, as I only played a bit of vanilla and TBC. However, this week I realised that if I go on like this, there would not be any 'surprise' factor in the game. So, now I am just occasionally checking barrens chat and don't think about planning, just play/go where the wind takes you, so to speak.

I probably do not have much time to play(12-15 hours per week), so on one hand I want my playtime to be optimal, on the other I would be behind the curve anyway, so why bother... And want to keep up with professions. But I want to have something to explore too, so maybe do some aspects of the game with the help of guides and just wing others. So maybe its more like.. eh... I want to use my time optimally in my non-optimal playthrough. yea, contradicting myself all the time is part of the process :D.

oh, to answer question: Indeed try to frontload your IRL activities, so you have a bit more time to enjoy classic on launch. Furthermore, I am currently playing OSRS, which also gave me a surge of nostalgia, but its also quite a good game after all these years still. Its also on mobile, I like to play it while commuting to work.

I renewed my subscription to retail and upon loading my level 120 paladin I thought to myself... "Why did I do this?"
I logged out of that and levelled my warlock out of Draenor. I'm not at all interested in BFA.

I've played a lot of classic games on emulators recently:
Donkey Kong Country 1 + 2 + 3, Super Metroid, Castlevania, etc.
all very challenging so long as you don't save state!

It's not for everyone but I've tried studying C# programming since Christmas, even though i'm not that great at it myself, I still find it enjoyable (when I learn something interesting and it works) It's something you can also get into when you're waiting for groups to form for your dungeons.

Console.WriteLine("Going out and doing exercise to shred off all the extra weight we're about to add in the future is probably a good idea.");

I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do for launch pending changes to hunter etc. I have been playing a lot of different games. PUBG, Deeprock Galactic (with friends. This game is like left for dead meets minecraft), Dota Underlords (neat new genre emerging) and the occasional game of CSGO. I always frequent the pservers with my vanilla characters and play every now and then for the odd raid but have been spending less time as some of my friends have quit on the lead up to Classic. Already tried BFA and lost interest.

My new favorite thing though? Reading articles from original WoW's release/ throughout the vanilla/BC timeline. Awhile ago we had a good token debate and I spent a lot of time going back and finding old articles. I was trying to get an understanding of the gold buying situation and how large it actually was from vanilla-wotlk. What I found was reading these old articles was a BLAST.

Online Game, Made in U.S., Seizes the Globe https://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/05/tech ... 05wow.html

Or this article http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/world-of-warcr ... 945p1.html ... Which then reminded me of gamespy and how I used to play medal of honor allied assault on gamespy. Whatever happened to gamespy? Articles like this touch on naming philosophies and general behavior that I think still apply today but through the eyes of people who hadn't really lived out vanilla yet.

Some of the issues that surrounded vanilla like https://www.gamespot.com/articles/china ... 0-6131845/ . "In China yesterday, the government agency that oversees the online game industry said that testing of a system to regulate the number of hours gamers spend online will be ready for deployment this October." China was implementing a system that would limit a gamers time ingame. Its just so interesting.

The old ZG plague http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4272418.stm

This story about a guildmaster who turned his WoW experience into a real career at yahoo https://www.wired.com/2006/04/learn/

I'm not sure why, but reading these kind of articles has been a blast for me. Its almost less about WoW and more about the issues and events that surrounded WoW. I was such a self-interested kid just focused on myself that I didnt really take time to understand the bigger picture of what was happening during my glory years. I also didnt spend time reading articles or even watching video content back then. I didnt really have time to... I was pushing rank, raiding, had school, a part time job and played sports. I just played my own games and interacted with my immediate circle. Its kind of interesting to get a bigger perspective.

edit: apparently IGN bought gamespy and gamespy had a slow and painful death.

A friend recently got me into this pinball simulator, some of you old farts would definitely like it. The Bethesda Doom table is extremely hard.

If you're under 18 "pinball" was a real life video game we played in "arcades" which required "quarters". You had to get these "quarters" by checking under the tables in crevices that the janitors couldn't reach but your young little hands could.

Do you have a playlist all sorted out? A special mini playlist for when you enter STV?

Do you have meal plans?

Do you have an Addon list?

Have you read all of Flintlocke's Guide? Have you seen all of Gorak's Guide?

Other than that just read up on Warcraft 3 lore to get ready.

Sorry for necroing this thread!

I just wanted to say I've found myself the perfect game that will last me until Classic release.

Jurassic Park Evolution on PC. Damn this is fun and nostalgic as hell!

It has been out for a while, and it is like a Roller Coaster Tycoon/Sim game where you build your own Jurassic Theme Park.

It's cheap to buy as well!

I've been playing a fair bit of CS:GO lately and the original Quake because nostalgia.

Also created a blog to document my journey through Classic, it's been a fun learning experience in web design even if nobody reads it!

Other than that, work mostly.

It truly is. My generic playlist isn't good enough. I need to think about everything I was listening to in 2005. It's proving much harder than I expected! I just know I listened to A LOT of The Killers and Every Time I Die.
