Hi all,

I’m planning on rolling an undead rogue on launch and can’t wait. I’ve not played rogue before, so I have played through to level 12 on a pserver. It’s definitely good practice, however, i’m getting worried that this will take the sheen off launch for me, as I will essentially be repeating all the same levelling in less than 3 months’ time.

Has anyone got my suggestions as to fun/useful things I can be doing on the pserver to enhance my enjoyment on launch? I’m very casual these days (due to family, work etc), but we have a big group of mates all pumped for launch and who are getting on the pserver for 1-2 hours a night.

I spent some time yesterday exploring Undercity, which seemed like time well spent, as I always get lost in that place! :lol:

p.s. Amazing job on these forums! Been lurking for a few weeks and it seems like such a fun and supportive community.

Hey Ouija and welcome!

If you don’t want to spoil it then I wouldn’t go about looking for useful things to do IMO.

That said, a bit of prep can help. You might want to have a look at the Rogue section of our resources list or set up a nostalgic playlist or something like that!

I just spent some time on an instant-60 server to see how classes I've been considering actually felt in my hands. It was good to finally bleed out all of the reading and theorycrafting that's been floating around in my head and I ended up changing my plans. YMMV

You could spend some time scouting out the more clinical parts of your character leveling experience i.e. optimizing your professions. There's guides on power-leveling this stuff but doing it parallel to questing is a different story. (The story usually being: don't bother until you're 60. But what's the fun in that?) As a rogue you might think about about poisons and lockpicking. But all of this can be figured out outside of the game.

I'd say the best thing you and your crew can do if you insist on playing is make characters on the opposite faction with classes you don't plan on playing.

C’mon guys, this prudent advice is not at all what I was hoping for on a niche gaming forum - you’re meant to encourage and validate my addiction! :mrgreen:

That’s a very good idea. I’d never thought of that, as we have been on Elysium Nighthaven. Which instant 60 server do you recommend?

I was playing on RetroWoW and it got the job done. It has pay to win donation schemes but right now it's flooded with people preparing for classic so you shouldn't have trouble finding a fair fight.

I’m getting brushed up on all my long lost wow you tubers! Oxhorn, Swifty, Mute & Roguecraft (if you haven’t watched World of Roguecraft and planning to roll a Rogue, watch it NOW), wowhobbes, Kungen and aaaaaaaaaallll the hundreds of other gems on some long forgotten websites that’s still out there! Yes I’m a nerd, but I still remember the video about the Troll going to the Hardware Store in Tanaris.. anyone else?

This is VERY good advice. No time investment, no attachment, no overhead. Just play every class / spec you want. Given the fact that OP and his friends are playing 1-2 hours per night, this would really suit their playtime as well. Getting your hands on a 60 and gearing it, only to find out you would have preferred a different class, can be devastating.

If youre just looking for some rogue content to hold you over, check out perplexity on youtube. The meta for rogues goes deep... real deep. Good luck. =)

hmm if youre already on the pserver and you want to give yourself a bit of an edge, id say try and level up getting yourself used to the quest routes, and learn any tricks to playing your class that'll help you level easier when it comes out. for instance even around level 20+ you can find yourself getting frustrated without knowing which zone youre supposed to go in, if youve freshly come from retail wow as it is now. in classic its more like youll be in and out of 2-3 different zones before you even get a level, at some points. so its nice to know the routes youll be taking.

Personally I am trying to figure out what I want to main. And to make my time "worth" it I reroll on retail aswell to learn the class more as a whole. So I plan to check out both Warrior, Mage, Rogue and Warlock for classic, and now I have them all in 120 and I prac playing them atm. Wont make me a better player in classic per-say, but a better player as a whole + get some basic knowledge of the classes.

I could spend this time to prac on classic lvling etc, but I really dont enjoy PV servers since they will just end up deleted anyways and it will diminish my excitement for classic release.

Also doing stuff I havent earlier, me and my friends have been doing BGs and gathered to do fishing in the que times (~15mins). Fun :)

I think the only thing you can do it read the WOW game manual and get hyped!
https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/te ... 773363.pdf

I mean if you never played a rogue during vanilla, playing it on live or an instant lvl 60 server wont help.
Yeah you can look at all the abilities but to me I feel it gets too overwhelming and you might get turned off by the class.
I feel as you level with the slow pace of vanilla leveling you learn your class, you slowly get introduced into your abilities and learn how and when to use them. If you get them all at once you might miss some key ones and leave em off your action bar or utilize the ability incorrectly. Basically you need to become your class and be one with the art of shadow to a point that you are out side lurking in the woods practicing stalking your enemies. Unexpectedly jumping your opponent with a kidney shot and vanish to the nearest safe area. :lol: :eek:

But yeah you can level a rogue on a private server but to me I would wait until the release to go in blindly to get the most enjoyment when leveling in classic.

To stay on point and answer your question, maybe look at some leveling guides, what professions are best for Rogue pvp, pve, making gold.
Thats what i have been doing and also looking at specs and reading why they are good for pve/pvp/leveling and so forth...
Watch videos of lvl 60 rogues and how fun/good they are so you just get so excited in playing your class

Useful things to do? I prefer watch videos about 3D modelling and stuff, since my passion as an game artist is just making prop/environment.

I do play some games like Enter the Gungeon and GTA V. But mostly I'm at Discord talking to someone.

It's my routine. :lol:

I do have experience with:
  1. Guild Lead;
  2. Setting Discord Servers;
  3. Kel'Thuzad Boss Fight (Recommended Video);
  4. 3D Prop/Environment Art.
  5. 2D Image Editing;
  6. Pixel and Voxel Art;
