After seeing alot about how WoW Classic works I chose Alliance Hunter cause I think their the best for hardcore PvP... My reasons for this
conclusion is that rogues seem to be the best PvP class, and the best rogues are on Horde cause of their racials (Orc's anti-stun and Undead's
WotF).. So if you want to PvP the best players you have to play on Alliance... And Hunters are like anti-rogue, so an Alliance Hunter (specifically
Night Elf) should wreck the Hord's rogues (according to my calculations)... FYI, I never played WoW but watched hours of videos about it, and know
what I must do when it comes out (get BiS gear ASAP for raiding to get that Teir3!).. What do you think of my logic that Hunters are best for
"hardcore PvP"?

i would not say that there is something like the best class for PvP. The most PvP is played in BGs so you need a Premade group if you want to gain Ranks above 10.
So everything can be the best with the right group. Pala and a warrior can survive really long on their own but also a priest with a warlock.
To do best you have to no life the game in phase 2 and if this phase takes around 3 month (just a guess from most people) you can get around Rank 6-9. With Phase 3 there will be bgs and you can farm the last ranks to get your gear that is way above BWL equip if i am not mistaken.
Alliance is mostly faster at ranking up because they have lower queue times.

I'd still rather face a hunter then a warlock. Chain fear is so sad.
Still, hard to beat a hunter in world pvp and during the leveling phase - the pet is so independent of gear!

Friend, you are going to need a lot more than video references to not get your dick smashed in. The first time a rogue or arms warrior closes the gap on you, you're going to start wondering what it's like to play a pure melee character.Alliance_Hunter wrote: ↑5 years agoFYI, I never played WoW but watched hours of videos about it, and know

In response to your OP, this post is pretty heartwarming if you're planning on a hunter:
Stfuppercut wrote: ↑5 years agoSo many good posts here so I'll just isolate my favorite class and make a case for its value; the hunter.
Highlights for PvP:
Viper sting - one of the highest value abilities in game.
Beast mastery (world pvp)- the best pvp spec from level 10-55ish. You will simply outvalue every other class with how insane bestial wrath is. At this stage in the game you wont even need to properly kite or use traps. You simply push bestial wrath and win. What if they have cooldowns and beat you? Bestial wrath will be off CD by the time you run back to your corpse, their CD's likely wont be. This thing is up for every pvp engagement.
Mobility - we take mobility for advantage in retail but it matters in world pvp and BG's a lot. Hunters have it.
Burst - Very bursty but also yielding high sustained. This damage is difficult to mitigate as it is physical, you dont stop damaging if you oom, and your damage is split between you and a pet. The pet / autoshot also have a ton of pushback potential.
Best midfield lurk / flag assist on WSG, due to viper teams usually bring 1-2 hunters minimum.
Best flag defense in AB until warlocks get gear and then warlocks, especially SL locks begin to outvalue hunters for defense (pending premade comps)
Highest impact in AV with viper. Viper ranks 1-3 are cycled through to oom high value targets on the opposing faction while spreading rank 1's to force dispells and oom healers.
As a hunter in premades I often find myself positioning near high value targets or harassing enemy healers. I dont kill healers. I simply oom them and then stand with them while they are completely helpless. I do my best to isolate these healers and keep them out of the team fight. This doesnt always work but is the highest impact a hunter can have on a premade.I can use eagle eye and high mobility for dominant positioning in maps like AB. I am arguably the best peeler for our heals/flag carries other than a frost mage? My sustained and harass are used to irritate the opposing team and create opportunity, when a kill target is established I can easily swap to the kill target (due to my range and immense burst) and drop the opponent with ease.
Pve:
The best leveling class. Fast and efficient. Can tank as BM for everything up to ZF with relative ease. TPS is actually higher than most leveling warriors.
The second best gold farming class.
The highest dps boasting a TON of utility during dungeon/pre raid. Can solo farm devilsaurs for pre raid preparation.
The highest dps in tier 1.
The highest dps for content progression during BWL. Parses dont see hunters falling until BWL is fully cleared and guilds begin to gear. This will not be fully accurate in classic due to changes to Lupos, but hunters should still be holding the top 5-10 spots during your BWL progression.
The best nightfall uptime / the only class with tranq guaranteeing you spots despite the fact that you devalue over time.
The ability to split mobs using feign. This can be used for solo play to avoid fighting large groups and is also used in raids for speed clears, a competent hunter is worth their weight in gold. Also can be used for guilds to force skips with clever use of feign death.
Hunters have a bad rep. But they're solid. Of the 9 classes in vanilla, all of which have a DPS spec, hunters are the BEST dps in PvE for more than 2/3rds of the game. During the end of the 2nd tier and throughout the 3rd tier hunters fall off, but they still provide uncontested value with tranq and nightfall. By this time youve already established yourself in a guild and have networked enough to solidify your spot anyways...
In PvP you are always great. Not just good, great. "But what about your deadzone...?"... <3. This is the best part about being a hunter. I dont have to try and predict what you will do. You will always try to gap close me, and that works for me. I do best when you are chasing me. I can reset the fight several times and in a pinch my melee isnt horrendous. 1v1's are laughable with very few exceptions. Team fights are excellent allowing me to create opportunities with CC/Vipersting/Harassing with pushback and peeling but I dont sacrifice my damage and burst. There is no downside. My pet dies? Im still in the game. Im oom? Im still in the game.
At the entry level, hunters are easy and awesome. At the top end they offer one of the most compelling styles of play that is hard to master. A bad hunter will still provide good dps (even if you make him put his pet away...). A good hunter can carry the group through the world and dungeons.
If I had to summarize my love of this class with one word it would be independence. Their sets look pretty sexy too...

Even in Wpvp there is no such thing as a top tier. It is gear depending who will will, how good their skill is and if there is backup around. Hunter do not counter rogues. If the rogue know what he is doing and has the first attack out of stealth you can be dead before you can put down any trap.Alliance_Hunter wrote: ↑5 years agoIm mostly going to be doing wpvp, and hunters are the top tier when it comes to wpvp from what I hear (and also the fastest levelers)... There will also a lot of hunters because they are so easy to level. I mean Shamans und Palas will be rare but not hunters.
And as i said the phase were the first time people will really do PvP on a big scale is in Phase 2 when the rank system is in and then you will see a lot of premade groups or even raids. Phase 3 will be all bgs with a premade so there will only small duells in the world but you will never make enough honor to gain ranks that way.

Well I won't be rolling undead, and even if I did, it's unlikely WotF holds up in a realistic protracted battle. You're slinging a lot of 'absolutes' that don't really hold up in real circumstances - but I appreciate your passion!Alliance_Hunter wrote: ↑5 years ago

Leveling on a fresh server? Definitely monsters just because the skill floor to send your beast mastery buffed pet on someone is super easy.
At 60? Complicated. The longer it goes on the less of a beast you'll be, and the more skill needed to be seen as any good.

Yup. @Alliance_Hunter, this is like saying you can win a UFC championship fight because you've watched all of them. Especially if you are going alliance just so you can fight against the "best" opponents. You will get rolled, especially on a hunter.Jon Bloodspray wrote: ↑5 years ago

It's hard to speak in terms of absolutes. There is no best class. There is no worst class. There are no best racials or worst racials... If youre looking for overall value throughout the course of vanilla regarding PvP, its hard to argue that hunters arent an S tier class purely from a value standpoint. As far as Orc rogues being the "best rogues" I would tend to disagree with this... In PvP (high level premade pvp), rogues will find themselves defending flags or assaulting flags. Due to this they are typically matched against flag defenders (other rogues, hunters, warlocks, druids). Most strong rogues would likely argue that dwarf actually offers the highest value racial through stone form for a premade vs premade standpoint (rogues will likely face rogues, stoneform breaks blind). This is where perspective comes into play... While Orc hardiness would still provide higher value overall, a top tier rogue who is making their character specifically for premades would likely prefer stoneform if they had the choice because they are playing within a very specific niche.Alliance_Hunter wrote: ↑5 years agoAfter seeing alot about how WoW Classic works I chose Alliance Hunter cause I think their the best for hardcore PvP... Its hard to argue that hunters arent S tier. They perform well in every portion of PvP on both horde and alliance. When considering a horde hunter VS alliance hunter some of the primary factors that I think of are shaman VS paladin matchups. Which would you rather kill? Which would you rather play with? This could be an entire thread on its own, but the highlights would be: From a team based standpoint, I would rather play with a paladin. This is almost exclusively due to their bubbles and blessing of freedom (a godsend for hunters). I also feel that ret paladins offer a better tool kit than an enhance shaman to kill a hunter and cause the hunter more grief than a shaman is capable of. While shamans can gap close far easier, they are also very easy to isolate and reset where as paladins are a bit more difficult to isolate due to bubbles and hand of freedom. Arguably a paladin offers a better healing counter to a hunter while elemental shamans offer the best opportunity to dispatch a hunter. Both fights are very easy though.Alliance_Hunter wrote: ↑5 years agoWhat do you think of my logic that Hunters are best for "hardcore PvP"?
In high level premade PvP horde will provide more burst due to shamans, specifically windfury totems and the immense pressure that can be yielded from a geared elemental shaman. This burst will be outweighed by raid gear. By the time battlegrounds are introduced, high level players will be fully raid geared and alliance will have a distinct advantage through paladins. This advantage will persist until players are Naxx geared and become so bursty that the edge will tip back in favor for the horde. At this point hordes burst becomes too volatile to mitigate. I will say that the difference in edge is so subtle that a teams collective player competence and team composition will almost always outweigh the nuanced advantages of either faction.

-if you're trying to counter rogues dwarf would be a better choice or orc
-warlocks destroy hunters and horde has the bulk of them
-the best rogues won't be on horde, it will be mixed (human rogue is very strong in premade, dwarf is good in general etc)
-rogues are not the best pvp class. granted they are annoying so I understand wanting to cuck them
however I will say as far as hunters: night elf hunter is the best choice for premading. shadowmeld owns and hunters are slightly more valuable on ally because their win condition is outlasting the horde.
@teebling Thanks teebling for the post ill save it for reviewing.
@IronBrutzler The good thing about hunter though is that their meant to be independent, so I dont plan to do alot of premades.. I'll probablly just shadowmeld camp in high-traffic areas, and let the rogue open up stealth when they attack my pet (from which I can cc and kite them all day long). In this way Night Elf Hunters are the best for "setting the table" in how a fight starts (as most rogues will take the bait, I think)..
@Linnguine Yeah im aware they have a high-skill ceiling which seperates good hunters from bad hunters, but all their teir sets are very good for PvP
@Cletus That's exactly what im saying, e.g. I learned to fight like Connor McGregor just from watching him... Im aware of engineering and consumables and central they are to PvP.. Knowledge is power...
@Stfuppercut I was aware of Stoneform but didnt know it negated blinds... That changes my perspective a bit (now I think dwarves are probably the best rogue, for rogue vs rogue; but Orc is still close).. And again, im just going to shaodwmeld camp high-traffic areas to catch unsuspecting Horde offguard, so im not really thinking alot about teamplay outside of PvE.. But thanks for the info nonetheless!
@wonderland I'm kinda pin-pointing rogue and warlock as the best 1vX classes (mages are too squishy).. And Undead Shadowpriest are the best 1v1 class as they dont have to deal with WotF... But as for warlocks, hunters have more range then them so we can be cheap and spam viper shot + kite them till all their mana is gone. And with shadowmeld still I think hunters are also THE BEST against rogues as in addition to stealth, we range and alot cc abilities..

okay so you will not earn enough Ranks to compete with others in PvP so you have to raid the max tier set that is available at that time. Also not a single Rogue will ever open stealth on your pet. shadowmeld is not the same as a full stealth.Alliance_Hunter wrote: ↑5 years agoThe good thing about hunter though is that their meant to be independent, so I dont plan to do alot of premades.. i think you should maybe play a bit on a private server. There or some instant lvl 60 pvp focused one because i think with your mind set you will have a hard time in Classic.
I just want to help you so you do not get frustrated with the hunter on lvl 60.

Yeah I plan to raid with a guild for the teir sets, and also get the devilsour armor (I think that's what it's called).. And I should be be good in BG aswell should I need to rank up to get the bloodseeker crossbow..... (check this guy out, he makes hunter PvP look really fun; I like how he showdowmelds out of danger)

Hunter is not the strongest PvP Class at all. Just my 2 cent, find out on yourself why ;)
Edit: Sry, I dont wanna sound rude or something, but Hunter is okey in some situations, but PvP changed a lot in the last 10 years in Classic. Every Class is viable....
Twitch Channel, feel free to take a look :)!
This is a really strange thread. OP is theory crafting while never ever played the game, that is... strange.
I also find it funny that you will shadowmeld at a location (say Hunter’s camp in STV) all day for the occasional ganking. Sure, could be fun some time but sounds like you’re building your whole PvP career and theory crafting on this...?
Would be interesting to hear what spec you’re planning?
Personally I’ve played several classes, hunter in Vanilla being one of them.

I don't recollect a single time when Horde players were bitching specifically about Alliance Hunters in Vanilla. If anything, they were bitching about Alliance Paladins.

The two people on YouTube that I use as my goto source of WoW Classic information, are Kargoz and Punkrat... These are vets in the game who've
been playing for years, and both seem to like Hunter the most.. So there has to be something about this class that's OP... I hope so lol..
Lol yeah cause I need to multi-task studying and playing, and so for me some sort of invisibility is a must... I dont want to go rogue asI dont want to compete with the billion other rogues for legendary gear... And as for specs I basically using the following as my guideline (jump to 13:50) except im putting 5 into 'concussive shot' and 5 into 'aspect of the hawk', and not putting any points into 'revive pet' (not sure where to allocate those points yet)..Quaria wrote: ↑5 years agoI also find it funny that you will shadowmeld at a location (say Hunter’s camp in STV) all day for the occasional ganking. I orginally wanted to make a Hunter to counter Horde Rogues.... So im heavily reconsidering playing as a Dwarf Hunter instead of a Night Elf, for Stoneform.. Then putting 5 points into 'Endurance Training' instead of 'Aspect of the Hawk' so that I have that extra health to survive the Rogue's first stun (Hamstring I think it's called), before I can use Stoneform to negate Blind.... But Shadowmelding looks fun, so decisions decisions...
That multitask camping strat will be hard without shadowmeld though. Also, you should know that raiding for gear might not work with BM spec so you might need a lot of respecs if you’re set on PvP:ing as BM.
