New to the whole Barrens chat! But I am curious what pet you other Hunters are going for come classic.

I find it interesting that after all these years people are divided on what pet to pick. Back in the day I remember everyone thought brokentooth was the best pet just because he had the fastest attack speed.

Brokentooth is the best PvP pet for the most part with his 1.0 attack speed.

Lupos won't have shadow damage in classic so he probably won't be a good option.

The general consensus is that Cat, Owl, Wind Serpent or potentially Raptor are the best leveling pets.

Personally I'll be using a cat from 10-60

I tried an owl from 1-30 on northdale and I dunno, it felt a bit underwhelming. I'm not sure how much pet choice really matters at the end of the day. I'll probably just pick something that looks cool this time around, rather than trying to minmax.

The @Leshraque from Jubei?? Shit dude, great to see your name around. I was day 1 on Jubei watching you and Joana racing to 60, you got server (or at least horde) 2nd to 60 yeh? We also raided together briefly in.... <Dark Sun> ? (Me on my druid Ryder). It was only a brief stint before I rejoined <Ice>. Anyway, great to see your name, hopefully it's the same Leshraque I remember. Didn't you grind out Rank 13/14 also?

I'm torn between The Rake or an owl. Both will add some time and effort to get, I'll be leveling in Mulgore/Barrens so I'll go for cat first and see if I can get him.

I've timed the spirit run from Orgrimmar and going through Feelwood. 5min to Splintertree, 10 to Feelwood and at Auberdine by 21min. Over the water and through the portal and ress in gy should be under 30. The owl is guaranteed so it might be OK to spend the time.

@5bx Owls don't start of with screech. They get it much later. Even if they did, they aren't as good as people make them out to be - cats are still better. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time.

As for The Rake... rare mob damage on Pservers is bugged so you might be able to tame it early on in classic if you find him. However, going back for a pet is a waste of time. It gimps your pet skill progression due to pet loyalty. I'm not even going to mention having to level the said pet before you can use it to fight mobs at your level.

Not a hunter but I always thought https://classic.wowhead.com/npc=731/kin ... h#comments was pretty cool and as a mage I felt like he hit me harder than most pets for some reason.

I'm not going for the hunter pet, I'm going to get close enough to fear bomb both and then proceed to kill the pet's owner, right before its eyes.

Lol, owls can get screech before level 20. An AoE attack that holds aggro and costs hardly any resources? Owl is hardly a waste of time. I think you would be justified in going for either the Owl or Cat. Not sure why you would bother with anything else though

@Toastea Lol.

The first owl you can get is in Teldrassil.
The first level of screech you can get is at level 16 in Westfall.

The first Owl a horde hunter can reasonably get is in Felwood and the first Screech in Desolace.

Tell me again how is it not a waste of time for a horde Hunter? Are you going to run to Teldrassil at level 10 and then run to westfall at level 16? Or are you going to level to 48, drop your pet and get an owl from felwood with 0 training points?

Lol indeed.

If you are Horde, sure its a waste of time. I was just thinking of hunters for the better faction

I go with Owl up to level 25, then i respec from BM to MM and get a Wind Serpent with Lightning Breath Rank 3 from Thousand Needles.

The reason i do this is because with Aimed Shot, my burst damage is higher.
The Wind Serpent has a instant cast of a ranged ability which makes it get aggro faster.
This makes it so i don't pull the mob.

The Owl is amazing, and i love it.
But after seeing a reddit post talking about getting Aimed Shot a lot earlier, i started doing some tests, and i love it.
More Crit. More Burst Damage.

@sashimii that is what I’ve been thinking lately. I’ve always played as a MM hunter but I’m thinking of going BM with a cat for leveling. Just hard to pass up the aimshot and scatter. Didn’t know about the wind serpent aggro tho!

Hey mate,

Yea same Leshaque, you're name actually rings a bell. I did get 2nd behind Joana and went to rank 14. Going to be going for a similar approach this time :P
