In the past I’ve played a shaman to around level 30 and am 100% sold with the playstyle and the class fantasy. I don’t want to jump in again before Classic for fear of taking the sheen off that new experience, but I keep going backwards and forwards between Troll and Tauren.
On the one hand, I dig the culture of the Tauren, their spiritualism and nobility, and I think (correct me if I’m wrong) that those who play them are regarded as pretty chill by Horde and Alliance alike. This last point also applies to Trolls though, and I’d much prefer having a thin and lithe character than a hulking great cow-man. The Darkspear look rad and also have their own links to nature and spiritualism, but I’m not a huge fan of the Jamaican accent.
It would be interesting to hear if anyone is having a similar dilemma...
P.S. I’m new here! Hello!

Hey there and welcome to the forum!
Being an alliance fanboy at heart makes me unable to speak from experience, but have you considered the option of female tauren? They are not the beefy bulls that the males are and they do not have the Jamaican voice mon'!
I found it also really hard to choose my race, but I think I'm quite set now, although I switched from NE hunter last week to Human Warlock this week :^)

Ohh the dilemmas :(
And welcome, hopefully you'll find many likeminded people on here :)
I know how you feel, except with me its regarding Horde or Alliance... Pretty confident in maining a druid this time but that leaves me with only 2 races and on different factions. So the choice is between Night Elf or Tauren / Alliance or Horde
So I am setting up Pros and Cons to help me decide:
I like the looks and animation of both in original caster form, slightly prefer Tauren
I much prefer Night Elf cat, but the Tauren bear
Both starting zones are absolute dogshit and my LEAST favorite on both sides.
Ironforge is the greatest city in WoW, Stormwind is OK / equal to Thunderbluff for me, Orgrimmar is horrible.
Know my way ca. way to 60 as Horde, not yet experienced on Alliance
Have found a nice danish guild on Alliance, but I think my friends will go Horde
Alliance Warlock

I had the same dilemma. One thing you might consider is, if you decide you want an alt, trolls have access to more classes than tauren. Therefore I'd pick tauren shaman (as I do).
I used to play Warn, human mage on The Maelstrom EU <Ashbringer | Rachell's Angels | Entrophy | Relentless>

Honestly just play what you like the look of.
There is absolutely no way I'm going to look at a gnome for months on end just because it's slightly better than Human, I'll just have to play better than those min-maxers xo
All fantastic suggestions folks, and thank you for the warm welcome! Looks like a sterling community you have here. We have a bank holiday coming up here in the UK, so I might use that to time to run around a private server or download a model viewer, see if that helps me decide. Of course with no release date yet I’ll probably be umming and ahhing about this for months! It probably doesn’t help that my favourite race is actually Dwarves... shh! Now if they could just become shamans and move on over to the Horde everything would be right as rain...

Same, Dwarf is the master race of wow! Favoring Alliance purely because I would like to lvl up a Dwarf Priest / Paladin at some pointInternet Itinerant wrote: ↑6 years agoIt probably doesn’t help that my favourite race is actually Dwarves... shh! Alliance Warlock
Playing a warrior and intending to tank I'm 99% sure I'm going to play Orc - highest overall stamina in the game (tied with Taurens who get an additional racial bonus to HP), high strength, https://www.wowhead.com/spell=142879/blood-rage helps with leveling and dps when in an offtank position, and +5 axes helps both during levelling and tanking scenarios pre- https://www.wowhead.com/item=18348/quelserrar
1% of me knows that a Troll gets https://www.wowhead.com/spell=274780/berserking and https://www.wowhead.com/spell=20555/regeneration and are technically slightly better tanks mathematically.
But I really want to play an Orc.

@teebling troll warrior's agility is still not fixed! :P

I may well join you on that one! But then I have to deal with the fact that Dwarves are the most popular choice for priests on the Alliance... I love my bearded brethren but I also like to feel special!ShamelessEU wrote: ↑6 years agoSame, Dwarf is the master race of wow! Very reasonable.
If anyone else needs a helping hand, this nifty tool has helped me decide on Troll once and for all!

This. Orcs just have the look of warriors.Escalotes wrote: ↑6 years agoPlaying a warrior and intending to tank I'm 99% sure I'm going to play Orc - highest overall stamina in the game (tied with Taurens who get an additional racial bonus to HP), high strength, https://www.wowhead.com/spell=142879/blood-rage helps with leveling and dps when in an offtank position, and +5 axes helps both during levelling and tanking scenarios pre- https://www.wowhead.com/item=18348/quelserrar

Also, big shoulders. I remember in BC the shoulder-armor-size tragedy... hope that won't be an issue again.
Glad I'm not alone in this.Notfemmesbf wrote: ↑5 years agoThis. I completely forgot that Trolls also have https://www.wowhead.com/spell=20557/beast-slaying which makes levelling that much easier. My farming alt will definitely be a troll.

Horde Druid is so hard to pick a race............ Lucky I love Taurens :)

I am thinking of playing an Alliance lock (played Alliance through my entire WoW career and sticking to it).
I would pick gnome for their +mana pool, but then again humans look cooler (and I also mean the robes on the model, gear that's not scaled down etc.)
Will see what I get to choose.
I was also considering druid, but in that case there is not much choice to be made.
In the end, if you're playing not for numbers and statistics but for the joy of it, I think it is very important to feel good about your race/class choices so taste matters a lot.

I know for my Warrior I will pick Orc but for my Rogue I am torn between female Undead and Orc. I really like the female Undead animations but Hardiness is great for PvP and Orcs are just cool overall.

I'm in the same boat picking my shaman, Resto Tauren's are the jam, but the giant shoulders on orcs look so badass lol

Shaman,eh?
Well, you have 3 choices: Orc, Tauren, or Troll. If you like Tauren the most, pick that. If you feel like you want to be a Troll even more then you should play that instead. If you want to play the Shaman master race then go with Orc (Thrall is an Orc in case you weren't sure). But if you feel like Tauren is more your style then you should certainly go with that. Unless you feel compelled to play as a Troll, which is also a great choice. However there are also Orcs and they are great too. Consider playing as an Orc unless you feel like Tauren is a better fit, they are much larger. If you don't like a toon that is too large, go with Troll. Then again, Orcs are right in the middle making them a perfect choice.
Then again, if the accent isn't your style, go with Orc. Of course, their skin may be too green for your liking. The choice now obviously becomes Tauren unless you feel like they mumble too much. Trolls have slightly better annunciation however, Orcs do as well. I hope this helps and if all else fails Keep this in mind: Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc > Tauren > Troll > Orc.......
Have a wonderful day!

Yeah, keep wavering when it comes to warrior race, I love the look of orcs but almost always play them - so they're excluded this time around. Was settled on Tauren, my play style fit great with their utility - but they feel goofy as warriors. Main tanked on Felmyst with an Undead warrior, and loved it - huge disappointment when it comes to shoulders though, hehe. Been planning for Troll last few weeks, and feeling settled now - I hope it stays that way.
Similar problem with the Shaman - usually go orc and love the race/class fantasy as well as the look, but want to try something new. Never played Tauren shaman that I can recall, but berserking feels to good to pass on.

There is definitely some sort of ephemeral, "lovable stoner"-esque quality that is helpful to play a tauren or troll properly. Tauren are the nature-loving hippies and trolls are the ones always asking to borrow your lighter.Internet Itinerant wrote: ↑6 years agoOn the one hand, I dig the culture of the Tauren, their spiritualism and nobility, and I think (correct me if I’m wrong) that those who play them are regarded as pretty chill by Horde and Alliance alike.
However, for tauren, there are also those that just want to play the Mountain in WoW. Gotta have those big shoulders!

Yeah, man. Im making an alliance druid and im really torn on which race to pick. SO MANY OPTIONS
