I have a question for you guys :)
I'm not interested in "speedrunning" my first char. I do want to level fairly quickly. I will hopefully have 2 weeks off work if they ever give us a release date!
I was wondering what bracket would you say I should practice to get ahead of most people before I can slow down a little? I've got my 1-10 under 2hrs but still VERY sloppy. I want to polish my 1-10 speed then maybe work a bit on 10-20. Any ideas? I will be going alliance (Sadly). I'll be a dwarf(most likely) paladin, so fairly slow but very little downtime.

If you have your 1-10 under 2 hours and are comfortable with your starting zone, and would be able to adjust if a quest in your route was camped and not worth doing, then you are far ahead of the majority. A couple of 10-20 runs to practice and get familiar with a route would put you well ahead of the pack on launch. You could slow down at that point and level comfortably without dealing with a lot of competition.
Edit: After thinking about it, you should probably aim for 30 before slowing down. That's where your efficiency can take a nosedive due to pvp. Getting there early should set you up for success going forward to 60.

6h 54m 10s
My notes say I can shave ~10m without mistakes and ~10-15m with better Verog/Miner's Fortune RNG...
This is also only the second "complete" run of this route 10-20 (I had two abandons at ~16-17).
E: again, big thanks to @Colroyds for all the help with Durotar and Barrens routing, as I said before my times would be much slower without him!

I got 1-6 now 44minutes as Priest. But I think I could safe some minutes at some parts.

What Macros do you use and why do you use these macros? I was wondering about the sit macro?Grav wrote: ↑6 years ago-Repack

I made like 3 or 4 mins of obvious mistakes so I could get sub 1:45, but my main goal is to route a full 1-60 so I'll probably just leave my time here. I wanted to sacrifice everything past level 10 just to see how low I could get the time. I sold bags and cloth and all that just to buy weapon/armor from vendor sooner. Obviously in a real longer run I won't be doing that. I did a more realistic run before and it was about 1:52 if i remember right. My route for this video is pretty grind heavy after level 5 because the palemane mobs are the best xp/hr until level 10, plus I can do all the quests in the surrounding area in between easily. Hopefully other people upload mulgore speedruns of any class because I'm curious what others do.
And if you are wondering why I'm crazy and am running Tauren Warrior, it's only because that will be my non-speedrun main and I want to level it fast on launch :) ... so yeah my real plan on launch will incorporate far different strategies at times to account for what will and will not likely be viable in the launch chaos.

@jpy Are you planning on running to 30? I'm curious to see what time you'll be able to pull off with that route.

@Massivechonk I'm working on 20-37 but I don't have too much time to invest, unfortunately. I'll post a shot for 30 when I get a suitable route and run.

I only was using a /sit macro in the run. All the other macros you saw in my macro window were GM command ones for routing/testing. Obviously later past level 10 there are a lot of beneficial macros to use as a warrior, especially when you are stance dancing more etc. I'm not a good person to ask about those because I am pretty new to warrior and am having to look all this up myself to learn.

No problem, ty :) <3Grav wrote: ↑6 years agoI only was using a /sit macro in the run. All the other macros you saw in my macro window were GM command ones for routing/testing. Well anyone on here who is planning to "speedrun" to 60 probably needs to figure out what to do from 40-60, yeh? No point having a perfect route to 10 or 20 then just running around aimlessly while the wave catches you. If people think getting to 20 quick means getting to 60 quick is going to be in for a shock, 1-20 is a fucking breeze compared to 40-60!

There is loads of people here, who only focus on level 1-20, 1-30 etc. Of cause they are going to end up at level 60 but might not practice/plan route the entire way. Speedrunning is a good way to get ahead of the pack and leave you even as a casual ahead of the other casuals. You could for instance plan a route to speed level from 1-20 with your own route and then switch to Joanas guide at level 20.
So you are honestly going to claim, that even for a casual player, getting ahead of the pack isnt going to help you level faster from 20-60?No point having a perfect route to 10 or 20 then just running around aimlessly while the wave catches you.

Doesnt help you that every questing area isnt filled with competition. Doesnt help you that there is fewer of the opposite faction.
I think he's trying to say that if you're planning on running to 60 you should have a solid route all the way through, instead of focusing on 1 to 30 which is doable in under 18 hours.yeyeftw wrote: ↑6 years agoSo you are honestly going to claim, that even for a casual player, getting ahead of the pack isnt going to help you level faster from 20-60?

Is that really worth it though? I guess it depends on your route.
No clue, havnt tested it. However, i have considered grinding 37-40, which is why that was my guess.
I really think it depends on how you want to spend your time. If you can get ahead early, its easier to stay ahead compared to being behind and then trying to catch up. If you have time for it you should of cause practice and plan a full 1-60. However, i get why some people dont have time for that, or just dont want to spend the time on it.Massivechonk wrote: ↑6 years agoI think he's trying to say that if you're planning on running to 60 you should have a solid route all the way through, instead of focusing on 1 to 30 which is doable in under 18 hours.yeyeftw wrote: ↑6 years agoSo you are honestly going to claim, that even for a casual player, getting ahead of the pack isnt going to help you level faster from 20-60?

I won’t have enough time at launch to finish the entire 1-60 so I’m practicing what I can. I still want a plan for the later levels that I have to do post first couple of days but the aspect of getting ahead would be gone by then for me, unfortunately. At 37 you can tame Broken Toothe.
E: @sheep nice time! Are you on repack or one of the LH servers?

@Jpy Oh yea... BT. I guess going for him is worth it in your case. Hopefully the alliance dogs don't beat you to it come Classic.
@est looking at your level 17-20 grind, you had same location as I was looking to use, do you think you could keep it all for yourself on actual launch especially when there is few quests on the area for people to do? I usually see people going to there already around level 15 to quest.
I think it will be possible. I don't expect there to be that many people, most will have gone offline and those still playing are mostly in the barrens by then (joana's guide doesn't go to the gnolls either). And I think it's not that bad if you have 1-2 people questing there, there should be enough mobs. It will only get problematic if another aoe mage comes.
