25 and currently spamming sfk runs trying to get the robes of arugal

It really is. While the zones I'm exploring right now are feeling emptier than I was expecting, I am still floored by the absolute quality of the entire package as a whole.
I've been playing this game on and off for 15 years. I thought there wasn't a lot left in the game that could surprise me, but I had a few moments last night that left my mouth hanging in awe of what I was seeing. Just little shit, too. I can only describe it as the exact opposite of death by a thousand papercuts. The nirvana of a thousand minor details. This version of the game is so much cleaner and in better shape than what I've seen on private servers over the years. It's even better than what I remember of the original game since the technology and implementation is better than what we had back in 1.12.
I was collecting crab legs on the beaches of Darkshore last night just going about my business when a Tauren buzzed past my face flying on a Wyvern flight path. I have never spent much time in Darkshore, so I'm not familiar with the flight path zones. But I definitely wasn't expecting to see horde flight paths taking the scenic route right between my Druid and the crab I was about to hit with moonfire! As cool and unexpected as that was, I was able to swing the camera around and watch the Tauren fly off into the horizon. It didn't phase out, or just disappear. I was able to watch him for a while as he continued off on the flight path. He did eventually phase out of my screen after fading off into the distance, but I was able to see it for much longer than I remember back in the original game. The added persistence added to the immersion.
After that happened, I ended up porting over to Moonglade. After I was doing doing my business out there, I took the flight path back to Darkshore. And this flight path took the same kind of scenic tour as the one I saw the horde player taking! On my way back to Darkshore, the hippogryph flew me through some horde encampments. I flew right through a pack of troll NPCs dancing around what looked like a fire pit at one point. Yeah, I remember this in the original game. But I also remember characters and NPCs in the original game having such short persistence that anything on the ground would appear and disappear before I could even take in what was happening. Now everything renders and stays rendered long enough to be part of the world I'm passing by.
None of this stuff is new, and I absolutely remember it back in Vanilla. I've gotten over a thousand hours over the years seeing this kind of stuff. The difference now is we finally have the technology to run a high enough view distance to see this stuff going on around us. And in addition to the added graphical fidelity, improvements in internet latency over the past 15 years makes it so the game can render players and NPCs in the air and in the sky for a much longer duration before phasing in and out. This all adds so much to the flavor and experience of the world that it's almost indescribable.
Everything is so buttery smooth. Mobs aren't running through me and ending up behind me every time I pull. Drinking animations loop for the entirety of the drink duration. NPCs don't fall through the ground and from the sky as they walk through broken patrol paths. Groups of NPCs no longer walk around talking to themselves as their scripted NPC partners failed to load or went off in their own separate direction.
So yeah, while layering is leaving the game world emptier than I was expecting, I am still enjoying the hell out of it right now. Queues and all. I can't wait to get back in and keep exploring.

The flight from Moonglade to TB is stunning, and you're right the new tech/iteration of vanilla is fantastic and beautiful. A big WoW moment for me yesterday was visiting the Stagnant Oasis and having the foliage turned up. Holy shit! It is like an actual lush oasis/jungle. It looks incredible! I am loving the aesthetic of Classic WoW... it's the same, but different, and better!

We had a thread earlier asking if people would like a WoW Reforged with updated graphics. Turns out we already have that. It's brilliant.
For anybody running an old ass computer for classic - if upgrading your computer to run this thing on a nice 1440P display at high refresh with all the settings maxed out at like 144hz is within your means, it's well worth the upgrade. Yeah this game can run on old ass hardware but the experience is just something else with everything cranked up as high as it goes. I never expected this old game to be this beautiful.

My server has a 4-5 hour queue. If I wait to log in when I get home at 5:30, that means I'm not getting in much earlier than 11PM.couchatron wrote: ↑5 years ago12 :/

Do what I'm doing - set up remote access with TeamViewer on your computer and install the app on your cell phone. Then log in 3-4 hours in advance during the day. Time it so the queue will be up ~30 minutes after you get home. Sucks that this is what we have to do, but now that I have it set up I basically have a skip-to-the-front-of-the-queue pass. TeamViewer is free and it's easy to set up.

I am level 19 1/2 on my Gnome Mage: RevrendChris. I'm glad to see people are around the same level as me. I did level my bank alt to 5 & played my Paladin to level 5 also. I have also been keeping up my professions: skinning, herbalism, cooking & 1st aid. Haven't done much fishing, though. Only got it to level 8. I'm just taking my time & having fun...

Maybe a dumb question but is there any benefit to getting your bank alt to level 5?ReverendChris wrote: ↑5 years agoI am level 19 1/2 on my Gnome Mage: RevrendChris. At level 5 you can learn Enchanting and disenchant some BoEs, then enchant your own boots with Minor Speed.Relik wrote: ↑5 years agoMaybe a dumb question but is there any benefit to getting your bank alt to level 5?ReverendChris wrote: ↑5 years agoI am level 19 1/2 on my Gnome Mage: RevrendChris.
