You've seen Reck-Bomb Paladins. You've seen Shockadins. We laugh at Ret Raid DPS, and as tanks they're forever stuck tanking 5-mans and trash.
My weird spec, is going to be Holy based, but not a Shockadin. I'll have Holy Shock, yes, but I'm not going for PvP burst memes. I'm hoping to go the route of Spell/Heal-Adin. I want to heal 5-mans (maybe raids) with ease, while also weaving burst DPS with SoR, consecration, judgement, holy shock, and hammer of wrath.
What I want to test is fast vs slow weapon for weaving.
Could I too please get more info on those tanking specs, especially the priest tank one?

Would you be able to send me information about? @pingaan

While it isn't too far from the meta apple tree, I enjoyed playing 2h Fury Warrior a lot on Nostalrius. You can do some serious DPS early on in content before hit rating helps dual wield take off, and the 2h weapons in Classic are far and away some of the best weapons Blizz has ever created in the game. OEB, BRE, Ashkandi, etc.

Hey, does the 2h fury build use slam? I remember slam theorycraft back in vanilla days, such an underutilised ability.Solveig wrote: ↑5 years agoWhile it isn't too far from the meta apple tree, I enjoyed playing 2h Fury Warrior a lot on Nostalrius. @Solveig 2h Fury warrior can deal really good dps if you put in the effort required, regardless of the raid. I am blanking on the name but there are a few very good 2h fury warriors who regularly keep up with DW fury dps. On the Horde side naturally...

It's my hope that people are more experimental rather than just parroting the same crap as before with all the people who will come from private servers. I think, unfortunately, that it'll be more of the same and people will be so tryhard as to keep the old stigmas whether they matter or not.

Personally I ran it without and still did fine. Had a friend using slam and he was managing to irk out a bit more DPS than I.Selexin wrote: ↑5 years agoHey, does the 2h fury build use slam? I don't think using/building slam is necessary but if you're trying to min max it as much as possible then I would suggest doing it. I'm just lazy and didn't want to have to be beholden to a swing timer.

Me too, which makes me dislike the current meta for Feral DPS, which is why I am looking more at Tanking/Resto/PvP.

Better yet :) they will be tryharding experimental stuff.Nobleshield wrote: ↑5 years agot's my hope that people are more experimental rather than just parroting the same crap as before with all the people who will come from private servers. I'd like to add the following as well. I've personally played both builds. Not claiming they're the optimal way to play or anything, but they worked fine up to Nefarian. I enjoyed playing them.
Smite Priest
Arcane Mage (as in, using Arcane Missiles as your main skill)

Arcane has some really good talents that help with lack of gear, if mana problems can be overcome it's a good build.
I've always wanted to make an arcane mage myself.

I personally wanna try deep disc priest for levelling. As I am going Night Elf I will have Starshards at my disposal and I wanna try if it would work in combination with disc spec. Throw smite/holy fire, SW:Pain, Starshards and wand to death. I wanna try to go full on spirit with gear and Spirit Tap, Divine Spirit and Meditation. Might be fun to try something new like that.

It might please you to learn that I've done exactly this twice, and it was an extremely enjoyable experience. Still not sure if I want to do it again for classic, but I can't deny it's tempting...Faendor wrote: ↑5 years agoI personally wanna try deep disc priest for levelling. Oh my. I too plan on rolling deep disc for leveling. It just seems a little stronger in terms of survival for Classic WoW's launch.Isilla wrote: ↑5 years agoIt might please you to learn that I've done exactly this twice, and it was an extremely enjoyable experience. @caperfin
I would love to learn more about every spec you mentioned, friend! Tanks, Holy DPS, and melee hunter. Thank you in advance for your insights!

I like the energy.
We have something we didn't have back in the day: data. And as we all know, data helps with analysis, which feeds into action.
Watch "The Big Hack" for a good recent concrete experience and explanation on Netflix.
The data and analysis paired with just about 15 years of experience for many of us will cultivate a different approach to Vanilla than what it once was.
For me, I was a huge shadow proponent and supporter but fell into a Main Tank / Class Lead healer in PVE and PVP. *unless I was on my Warrior Alt*
Now I am eyeballing and evaluating the "smite spec" that some priests employed effectively on private servers. Gives me combat power as well as a reliable raid slot because I can heal well enough to stop eastee from happening.
I'm all about the datamine that is classic right now and im on board the hype-train to see where it ends up on Aug 27th. (and beyond)

Hmm I was sure I replied to this thread.. maybe it was another one.
There is one build that is being theorycrafted a lot, and it is indeed spelladin. I think vanilla theorycrafters could not make it a full-fledged build, but I think there are (were) items that benefited from spellpower. The meteor trinket comes to mind for one. Many of these items were in late raids (AQ40/Naxx I believe?) so they couldn't really get to "test" them with all off-spec characters.
The shockadin on private servers is mostly guessing Blizzard's code. We don't know if they are accurate and if I had to guess, they are probably wildy inaccurate. I think there will definitely be some new areas to "discover" (read: to re-learn how some items / spellpower coefficients etc run on some items / spells / classes).
There are also many "odd" items that probably work quite differently. Was https://classic.wowhead.com/item=9449/m ... d-pummeler a thing for bears tanking raids in classic? Does https://classic.wowhead.com/item=2243 allow instant HS? How about instant AB capping? Honestly I don't know. I don't think anyone really does, unless there are some videos dating 2004-05. We have some private server data, but then again they reverse engineered many things but had to do guesswork on a gazillion of things. I think finding out about odd little items and seeing if they work is going to be interesting.
I mean I saw a private server where https://classic.wowhead.com/item=7734/six-demon-bag was effected by spell damage.. so yeah.
