Generaly i usualy finish darkshore around lvl 17-18. So do i stay and grind, or do i go ashenvale and hit 20 there, or go straight to eastern kingdoms. Which quest do i pick up first to make it the most efficient? Thanks for the replyyeyeftw wrote: ↑6 years agoWhat is your exact issues with transitioning from darkshore?Milva wrote: ↑6 years ago@yeyeftw @Alenya
Hey guys, will you be able to share the NE hunter vids from 1-20 or 30? If this is not some secret you are trying to keep for yourselves for launch ofc. I’m also rolling a NE hunt for classic and i have some problems when transitioning from Darkahore to eastern kingdoms and could use some guidance on that. Thanks!

I tested this on my private repack and it seemed to work. The variables can be found in the
Code: Select all
./mangosd.conf

If you actually found the values, which it seems you did, then I don’t see why this wouldn’t work. Thank you!Vemp wrote: ↑6 years ago
I tested this on my private repack and it seemed to work. The variables can be found in thefile. You need to set all 3 values to 0 and then run your server as normal. I tested this by logging out of a character in an inn for 40 minutes and it gained no rested XP. Not sure if that's due to the changes I made to the config, or if the time resolution for batch updates to rested XP is larger than 40 minutes. Hope this helps!Code: Select all
./mangosd.conf

Thanks, i have been modifying the datebase to remove rested experience instead, but this is way more convinient.Vemp wrote: ↑6 years ago

Got into speedrunning just yesterday, but a long way to go I guess
1-10 as troll Hunter following Joannas guide took me 3 hrs 8 minutes.
Was playing on ND though and there is still a pretty big population in the starting area, so it might be a bit faster with sharding.
Noticed that Zalazane quest on echo isles is incredible hard to do without interrupt at level 9 smth, so I might skip that one in my next try.
Never playing a hunter before didnt help much too, but without pet its not difficult to play.

@FTHforever Dont worry, the first runs might be rough but you will learn fast, I promise! Find a good video or route, practice it by segments (1-6, 6-10) and you will get it memorized in no time. I didnt even need to look into my notes after 2 evenings of practice, and even if you stopped at that, you'd still be a lot faster than the majority of people at launch :) Also feel free to modify it to your needs, Zalazane is indeed hard, maybe I'd look for inspiration in some speedrun videos.
I don't leave Darkshore until level 20, a combination of levelling and grinding. Then I head to Loch Modan and do a few quests there on the way to IF and then to SW/Redridge. Once I've done Redridge quests, I hearth back to Darkshore and move onto Ashenvale from there.Milva wrote: ↑6 years agoGeneraly i usualy finish darkshore around lvl 17-18. Sexy time there! congrats :DSoyoen wrote: ↑6 years agoGood initiative, we are a couple of vanilla speedrunners who have had a discord for quite some time now. If you are serious about speedrunning and interested in joining then shoot me a message at discord (Soyoen#9589).

@FTHforever Really Sticky Glue helps a lot with the Voodoo Trolls that heal at 50% and the Hexxed Trolls can be handled easily with kiting. Just be aware of what’s around.

Speaking of really sticky glue: I saw a couple of runners use at least 5 of them while doing 6-10. Is that alright, or are there better uses for glue later?
Will do some more testing, anyone tried 1-10 without any questing btw? I mean its lvl*10 mobs per level that are your level iirc, so could still be pretty fast.

@FTHforever if it’ll save you from death then it’s almost certainly worth using it whenever. My current route doesn’t turn in that quest until level 8, but I’d say only use them if you need them. You may see people more willing to use them on a speedrun in an attempt to push their time as much as possible.
On the note of grinding, here’s a chart breakdown of mobs required per level:
Focusing on quests is without a doubt faster at the earlier levels, but you should grind mobs en route to objectives.
If you’re interested in Orc/Troll in particular, here’s my latest run at 1:57 but recent attempts makes me think I can shave 3-5 minutes the next time (busy busy) I can sit down for a full run and I think there’s still another ~5 minutes to shave from there. I’d say ~1:45-1:50 for Horde Hunter would be a really great time to shoot for:

Sorry for the ignorant screenshot, I'm still not used to screenshotting with dual monitor and I fucked the first one up and had to log back in to get another lmao. This puts me at 1hour 53m 23s and many mistakes this run..
On that note, anyone know how to convert this weird file format that screenshots are saved for private servers?

I'm not sure how to convert the .tga files to a regular image format. I'm guessing there are some open source image editing programs that would allow you to do that. I just hit alt+print screen and then paste it into paint. Holding the Alt modifier causes windows to only take a screenshot of the current focus window, so you won't inadvertently grab both monitors.
Anyhoo, here's my best time so far. Not great, but not bad for a Pally solo. There is still a fair bit of room for improvement; I died to Garrick Padfoot in the starting zone because I kited him into a bunch of other mobs and I'm pretty sure I died to Goldtooth unintentionally once as well. I forgot to record video of it unfortunately, so I'll have to remember to do that for next time.
I also feel like my route was suboptimal; I ran all the way to Stormwind for Shipment to Stormwind at level 9, only to realize that the other quests I intended to pick up/turn in there gave next to no XP at that level. So I had to run all the way back down to the Maclure Vineyard, killing as many things along the way in a desperate scrabble for experience. Oh and I died again to the named Defias mob in the house south of Stormwind. Definitely a lot to improve both in terms of route and mechanics.
Human Pally 1-10 in 1h 49m 7s on the Light's Hope repack (set to content patch 1.2, rested XP turned off).
I registered here just for this thread; it's really building my hype for classic.
What would you say are the essential addons/macros for speedrunning? I know that the genuine 1.12.1 addons we currently use will need to be replaced once classic launches so I'm interested mainly in the functions we require (auto-accept quest, auto-hand-in quest, auto-gossip, auto-vend greys, auto-repair, auto-buy food/drink/arrows, auto-accept res, auto-accept res sickness, auto-dismount, auto-block invites, auto-refuse quest shares off the top of my head) but recommendations for specific addons to use now while practicing are also very welcome.
Thanks in advance.
There's also Win+Shift+S to screenshot a specific region to the clipboard if you want to skip the paint step. Clicking the notification that pops will also let you edit and save the image.Vemp wrote: ↑6 years agoI'm not sure how to convert the .tga files to a regular image format. You're right, most 1.12 addons won't work in Classic, but I'll write out what I use along with the functions they perform so you have an idea.
Essential addons/macros for speedrunning: well it depends on what class you plan to run as. If you're going Hunter, I'd highly recommend something like Yet another Hunter Timer (YaHT). If you're going melee class like Warrior, you'll want Attack bar timer for both your melee swings and your enemy's swings so that you can exploit melee range mechanics to reduce the damage you take from mobs.
Regardless of class though, I personally like LazyPig (automatic quest acceptance and turn-ins, auto-vendor greys and auto-repair), Questie (great quest database with objective markers), and EQL3 (extends your quest log and allows things like auto-tracking of quests on pick-up or progress). Those are the only ones I'd consider pretty necessary, and even then it's debatable; I know one speedrunner who goes with a very barebones addon layout. As a result, his new characters require very little set-up or fiddling. So it's up to you!
As for macros, neither of these are necessary but I like having a /played macro so I can see my playtime, and a /sit macro for when you want to death warp (die and rez at spirit healer before level 11 as a means of fast travelling; sitting down makes you get auto-crit and helps you die faster). Hope all this helps!

@Jpy it's actually not related to private servers, for some reason vanilla WoW often defaults to saving screenshots at .tga instead of .jpg or .png. This can be fixed via in-game command, or by editing the Config.wtf file.
See this Wiki page to see how to set it to .jpg:

Those are some impressive times! Good job :)
On a side note, I managed to get a new 1-10 PB at 1h30m, even managed to record to run, but it's pretty much the same thing as the 1h25m video out there. Currently trying to wrap my head around the best possible route and pathing for 12-20 - Anyone got some suggestions? Currently trying to follow Joanna's Darkshore to 17, Loch Modan to 18 and Redridge to 20 (I really like the idea of skipping Westfall for the launch)

I would say for a Gnome your best bet would be Darkshore until level 20, which will require some grinding but it's worth it imo. Darkshore is just too good for that 10-20 range.
P.S. great time there! Congrats.

Thanks for the replies on screen shotting! Also nice times from @Vemp and @Ashkandi, I’m a bit busy today but I have the next two days off so I’ll get this updated soon.

Did another run today, now on LB for a bit reduced pop. Still some people around, but not that many.
Got the run down to 2:30 with some things I learned from the first run, like skipping all echo island quests except the tiger hide one. Made a lot of dumb mistakes towards the end, that surely cost me at least about 15 minutes, these harpies in the canyon on the 2nd quest of the goblin are stacked, easy to add and die. Not setting HS to Razor Hill didnt help too.
On the other hand: warlock is very powerful once your Imp is up and you can do the "aggro triangle". Might still do more runs in durotar to get better movement and less hickups, then I will move to the 10-20 bracket.

Had a chance to sit down at my computer for a bit before work and everything should be updated now. I'll be classifying repack and Lightbringer run times in the same category for now. Tomorrow I'm off and I'll add a new set of leaderboards for Lightbringer runs and I'll try to consolidate some speedrunning information that has been discussed in this thread into the resources section.
My goal for now is a sub 1:50 Horde Hunter run and then to try some Ally Mage running. Best of luck to all!
E: if anyone can do graphic work and wants to try their hand at a banner for the thread please feel free! Also taking suggestions for how to make the first post more aesthetically pleasing.

Hey guys. I've started speedrunning somewhat recently, and I'm really planning on optimizing my route on a NE Hunter, and would appreciate some help along the way.
