Regional RP-PvP communities demand acknowledgment of our most pressing concern: The lack of including RP-PvP Realm Types in World of Warcraft: Classic
What we are asking for: PvP server with RP rule-set
What does that mean?
Well specifically speaking, back in the day Blizzards RP rule-set was as follows:
'The General Chat Channel should only be used for finding Story Lines (SLs), finding Party Groups and various other discussions pertaining to Base Story Line (BSL), game-related topics, and continuity
The General Chat Channel should NOT be used for any "Off-topic," Non-Story Line or non game-related discussion
Absolutely no out of character (OOC) or Non-Fantasy related dialogue should take place in the /Say, /Yell, or Party Chat Channels
Guild Chat will not be policed for any fantasy related violations
All normal harassment rules still apply
Examples of appropriate conversation in the General Chat Channel:
"Would anyone like to join a Rogue Specific SL?"
"What happened to the Well of Eternity?"
Examples of inappropriate conversation in the General Chat Channel:
"Did you see that new movie?"
"My sister just bought a new car."
If a player is found violating any of these rules, he/she may:
Be given a warning
Be temporary suspended from the game '
What RP rules will there be for Classic?
The current policy -- If someone is being maliciously disruptive via OOC chat you SHOULD report it and it WILL be investigated as a form of harassment
I strongly believe most RP-PvP players / community leaders don't know or are largely un-aware of Blizzard and Ion's nearsightedness regarding their realm type of choice.
RP-PvP Server(s) need to be included as they were in Vanilla, back in patch 1.8
RP-PvP Server(s) were demanded by the community in 2005
RP-PvP Server(s) must be added to World of Warcraft: Classic @ LAUNCH
(Failing to do so compromises the already ’too niche’ community)
RP-PvP Server(s) Affords Role-players and mature community members the choice of a contested, immersive world in a community of like-mined characters.
This is all pre-mature and honestly, hopefully unnecessary -- i'd rather have things in place before we find out server names or at the very least stir up conversation with RP-PvP players + like-minded community.
This project would exist to centralize the debate and choose an un-official home on a PvP server!

I played on an RP-PVP server in Vanilla because of IRL friends. Those rules were not hard and fast since I broke every single one of them and nothing ever happened, in Vanilla.
True, and it is expected that these old rules won't be enforced either.
I love me some RP-PvP servers.
I will be honest, I don't think I ever had a max level rp character. But that does not diminish the amount of fun I had with friends and just random strangers in the world, and stumbling upon a group RP in a city or something was honestly such an awesome experience.
I definitely want an RP PvP server even if it isn't where my main will live.
Debate is a strong word that I've never seen work well with the RP-PvP community because their arguments are mostly sentimental. Their petition has been pushed for months on every Discord recruitment server, subreddit, even these forums and even with all of the unwarranted support from non-RPPvP players it doesn't have enough signatures on it to mandate an entire server for them.
This is the exact sentiment which fuels most of these discussions. People think there's a huge RP-PvP potential because there's this kind of support for it, but when push comes to shove most RP-ers will be playing on RP realms, most PvP-ers will play on PvP realms and most raiders will be playing on either the PvP or the PvE realms depending on where the best or most guilds will be going.
But good luck convincing folks who think RP-PvP is the best thing in theory since it combines every aspect of gameplay there is but can't look past the fact that historically they've never lived up to those expectations.
The very first RP-PvP realms were released by themselves, with no other realms released at the same time. This singular fact is the reason why many of them were unsuccessful. Many people who went to those servers did so without RP in mind, only wanting to go through the content race or leveling race again, to have a brand new start on any realm. If there is an RP-PvP realm to begin Classic, then this problem can be avoided and the realm will have an opportunity to flourish.
That's all hypothetical and I'm certain the choice not to release RP-PvP has more to do with business (i.e. population) rather than principle here. A widespread petition with 2k signatures isn't going to convince them. If it had >10k, even assuming half of those were not from players who wanted to play on RP-PvP realms, then maybe. But if the players interested in playing on RP-PvP can't even get behind that then I don't blame them for not wanting to release them.
This is too true. This is a business first and people need to think about the value of this investment in regards to a cost/return perspective. Just as Blizz was never opposed to recreating vanilla, they are not opposed to RP-PvP realms, they just need to have some metric that shows strong support and unfortunately (for those who want these servers), they don't have that. You can be certain that if demand is high enough for these servers, you will see them, and if it is not, you will not. Blizz is not opposed to making money and if there is potential to appeal to that demographic of players while remaining profitable, they are incentivized to do that. Nostalrius offered a working prototype of Classic, outlined demand and delivered a lot of statistics about the demographic of users that would be interested in Classic. Pair that with a petition supported by some large influencers, and Classic found itself being developed. RP-PvP realms just need to promote their necessity in a similar fashion and you will find them being added to the realm list.
Imagine them pushing through and creating these servers despite the lack of interest in them... Blizz now has the overhead of running the servers, the players who do role characters there are existing in a ghost town in a few short months and now Blizz has a decision to make... Do they start investing more money into these servers to manage mergers and try to save these communities? Do they just abandon them and let them be vacant? Do they offer server transfers to them, and how does the RP-PvP community react when players who were not on RP-PvP realms start transferring there? This just opens a whole can of worms that Blizz would rather avoid unless they are certain this community can be sustained with a healthy population.
This is the same reason we are getting layering. Its safe. I fucking hate layering, and will be the first to say that it is an awful implementation and would advocate that they had several better options, but what I cant argue, is that layering isnt safe from a business perspective. It gives Blizz a TON of wiggle room player estimations. What will kill certain aspects of immersion and gameplay for players (similar to how the RP-PvP community feels about their realms not existing) is a simple business decision for Blizz. I can understand their perspective, I may not agree with it, but it makes sense.
Consider the size of a streamers fanbase. If even one prevalent streamer advocated and pushed for these realms with their fanbase and vouched that they would be rolling on such a server, Blizz would probably be more open-minded to creating these realms.
Yeah, I'm not arguing there. What I am arguing is: I would like an RP-PvP server at launch, and if there is not, one should not be released by itself. While there may not be enough tangible demand for an RP-PvP server at the moment, if there ever is enough demand to warrant one, it should not be released by itself or without other server types, because that will encourage non-RP folks to roll on that server, which is not really what the purpose of the server is.
