Blizzard Sends Out New WotLK Classic Survey, Featuring Deluxe Edition Mounts & Death Knight Boosts

blizzard sends out new wotlk classic survey, featuring deluxe edition mounts & death knight boosts

It has been just 2 weeks since Blizzard started sending out surveys trying to gauge interest in WotLK Classic, and barely 4 days since the WotLK logo was discovered in the Classic Era PTR files, but the WotLK Classic related news just keep rolling in!

Specifically, Blizzard has started sending out a new survey, asking them how they would feel about different perks and services being offered “as part of a bundle available for purchase for the next World of Warcraft Classic package” — aka a Deluxe Edition of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. The options that players are being asked to consider include services already available for purchase, such as a character transfer, 30 days of game time or a level 68 boost (Death Knight excluded), but include more interesting options, such as an exclusive mount usable in WotLK Classic and a level 68 Death Knight boost.

This has some interesting ramifications. The Phase Hunter mount that came with the TBC Classic Deluxe Edition was extremely unpopular with players, causing a movement of players using the /spit emote on anyone riding it, so Blizzard must have found that it boosted Deluxe Edition sales significantly if they’re considering bringing it back. Furthermore, the level boost that came with TBC Classic Deluxe Edition was limited to the old races only, not the Draenei / Blood Elf races that came with TBC, so the fact that they’re considering adding a Death Knight boost for WotLK Classic is very interesting.

Furthermore, according to the survey, it appears that Blizzard is considering releasing 2 different Deluxe Edition bundles:

  • A $29.99 bundle featuring a character level 68 boost gift for a friend (non Death Knight), a character transfer, a pet, a WotLK themed mount for Classic WoW, a WotLK themed mount for retail WoW, and 30 days of game time
  • A $49.99 bundle featuring a character level 68 boost (non Death Knight), a Death Knight level 68 boost and a toy

What’s interesting here is that the $49.99 bundle essentially includes 2x level boosts for the price of one, while the mount is limited to the $29.99 bundle, which may indicate that level boosts are significantly more popular than the mount. The $29.99 bundle appears to be aimed at players who want to play with their friends who have since quit Classic, while the $49.99 bundle appears to be targeted more towards players eager to return to the game with WotLK Classic, which is already expected to be massively popular.

Players are expressing concern over these bundles, and specifically the level 68 Death Knight boost in specific. Many are questioning why Blizzard feels it’s necessary, given that Death Knights already start at level 58. Others point out that Death Knights are expected to be extremely popular and a readily available boost will exacerbate issues that players faced in the past, such as a shortage of dungeon groups and unbalanced battleground groups due to the sheer number of Death Knights around.

What are your feelings on this topic? Do you like that Blizzard is considering bringing back the Deluxe Edition model with its extremely convenient perks, or were you among the players who considered it unhealthy for the game? Will you be purchasing either of the Deluxe Edition bundles, and if so, which one looks the most attractive to you? Let us know in the comments below!

My opinion is that they should feel free to sell bundles for things that have no impact on the game (Pets, Mounts, transfers etc.). I’m ok with the one time use Level 68 boost for a character, and even a friend. But the level 68 boost for Deathknights troubles me. On the one hand, once WotLKC hits there will be a lot of players in the areas of Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord and adding a whole host of Deathknights in to the mix as well is just unneeded chaos. On the other hand, for Deathknights levelling 58-68, Outland will probably be dead so things like dungeons and some group quests won’t be viable.

If they were to have the bundles for the level 68 Deathknight boost I would ask that they delay the use of it for a few days to a week to avoid the chaos.

More thought required!

I personally would like a 68 boost, for any class. I just want to skip Outlands entirely lol. And whether I boost a dk or not, it has 0 effect on how everyone else plays. Also, I know dks start at 55 and are 58ish once they’re done with the starting area but I don’t care lol. I mained a dk ever since WotLK retail so I know how to play the class and I wouldn’t be a noob or anything 😁
