Season of Mastery servers were immensely popular when they were first released, with multiple servers experiencing booming populations. However, a similar pattern to that of TBC servers quickly emerged – several servers started experiencing population decline, which in turn prompted players to start creating new characters on larger servers, to escape anticipated population issues.

At the time of writing this article, the Dreadnaught server houses roughly 56% of the total EU population, while the Jom Gabbar server houses roughly 53% of the NA population — with both servers only getting larger over time as more and more players flock to them, letting other servers die in the process. All of this was highlighted by WoW Community Council member Sixxfury in a post on that specific forum, with no response from Blizzard in the 3 weeks since it was first posted.

After keeping us waiting for a while, Aggrend has come to the rescue of players (once again) by announcing that Blizzard is planning on adding free character migrations to Season of Mastery servers, intended as a relief valve for the lower population servers. It is not yet clear when these FCMs will be coming and which servers will be included, but it stands to reason that migrations will be available towards Dreadnaught and Jom Gabbar as that has been Blizzard’s solution to similar issues in the past.

What are your feelings on this topic? Did you already reroll on Dreadnaught / Jom Gabbar? Will you be considering moving when free character migration becomes available? Or do you prefer to stay on your current server, even if its population dwindles? Let us know in the comments below!

Hi Sixxfury,

Thanks for asking about this. Just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that we do have Free Character Moves (FCMs) planned for WoW Classic Season of Mastery to give some of the lower population realms a relief valve. We’ll be talking more about this including which realms will have FCMs enabled soon.

In addition to adding these for Season of Mastery, we’ll also be enabling FCMs on additional Burning Crusade Classic realms as well.

Thanks you!

Definitely gonna migrate from Bonescythe to Dreadnaught if possible, Horde has a tough challenge to create full 40 man raid for MC.
