Besides your gear and talents, there are 3 additional ways you as a player can increase your character’s power: gems, enchants, and consumables, which make your character significantly more powerful when combined correctly.

Many guilds and raid groups may not invite you at all if you don’t have the correct gems, enchants and consumables — but fear not, this guide will help you avoid that problem!

Gems

Gems listed first are what you’ll want to get in early phases, while the second gem listed will be your goal for the mid-late game. Click to see details, discussion, and/or alternatives (where required)!

Note that this guide is a work in progress, and explanations for slot choices will be added at a later date.

The Mystic Dragon’s Eye requires Jewelcrafting 350, so you can slot Mystic King’s Amber as an alternative.

If you are not Spell Pen capped, you can slot Shattered Forest Emerald in early phases, and Shattered Eye of Zul in later phases.

If you are not Spell Pen capped, you can slot Shattered Forest Emerald in early phases, and Shattered Eye of Zul in later phases.

Enchants

Players with the Inscription profession should use their profession-exclusive Master’s Inscription of the Axe enchant here, while everyone else uses Greater Inscription of the Axe.

If you don’t quite have the The Sons of Hodir reputation necessary to buy it yet, you can temporarily use Inscription of Triumph (purchased with 30 Stone Keeper’s Shard from Wintergrasp).

This is your best option for this slot.

Players with the Engineering profession should use their profession-exclusive Nitro Boosts enchant here, while everyone else uses Enchant Boots – Greater Assault.

If you’re strapped for cash, you could use the more budget-friendly Enchant Boots – Icewalker instead, making sure it doesn’t push you past the hit cap.

This is your best option for this slot.

If you’re strapped for cash, you could use the slightly more budget-friendly Enchant 2H Weapon – Massacre instead, but it is significantly weaker.

Consumables

Generally speaking, you can only use Star’s Sorrow and Conjured Mana Strudel in arenas (other foods are unavailable in arenas). However, you are able to use any other types of food in battlegrounds or the open world.

There is a slight catch to Buff Food, however: once you die, you will lose its effects! In general, you can use Buff Food without being a complete waste of gold only if you find yourself in a premade team that is extremely organized!

For Battlegrounds or the open world, you will want to use Fish Feast as your primary food, with Imperial Manta Steak being a solid second option
