Realms And Services Impacted By Ddos Attack

Some gigantic assbag, or a group of gigantic assbags, have taken it upon themselves to do an distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on Blizzard’s services and realms, including WoW Classic. Obviously they have too much free time on their hands and take pleasure in making it so that people are unable to play a video game on the weekend. One can only hope that the authorities will see fit to adjust their schedules accordingly once they are apprehended.

So far Blizzard has had a few things to say, including this post by Orlyia, from Blizzard Customer Support that has since been edited.

They also recently posted this tweet:

This isn’t the first time Blizzard has faced an issue like this, and the last time the perpetrator received a 1 year prison sentence.

Calin Mateias, a 38-year-old Romanian man who was just sentenced to one year in federal prison for launching a series of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against World of Warcraft’s European servers in 2010.

Today, Saturday, September 7, the World of Warcraft service has been negatively impacted by an ongoing distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. For several hours today, we’ve repeatedly seen WoW realms targeted and taken offline by the attacker(s).

It is our top priority to resolve any issues that prevent players from being able to smoothly play World of Warcraft. However, it is the nature of DDoS attacks that players may experience the game becoming unavailable. If you are disconnected or have issues logging in, please be patient and wait a few minutes before trying again.

We will continue to work to address the situation.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
