Tempest Keep: The Eye Raid Guide

tempest keep the eye raid guide tbc

Thanks for taking a look at our strategy guide for Tempest Keep: The Eye in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic! Located in eastern Netherstorm, The Eye is one of the two raids released with Phase 2. Like Serpentshrine Cavern, The Eye is home to Tier 5 gear drops. The Eye boasts just four bosses to kill, and there is no set order in which to defeat these bosses.

Most of the fights in this raid are easy enough to succeed in, but hard to master. Without much doubt, many players deem Kael’thas Sunstrider, the final boss, to be the hardest of the raid.

Our guide aims to help you understand how best to prepare yourself and your raid group for The Eye by giving you an overview of each encounter, providing an in-depth explanation of each boss, discussing positioning and how you can set yourself up for success. We also cover the lengthy attunement process, and how you can reach the entrance.

You can find a full list of Tempest Keep: The Eye Drops and Loot over in our loot tool.

Without further ado, let’s get started with Tempest Keep: The Eye!

Attunement Process

Before being able to enter Tempest Keep: The Eye, every member of your raid must have completed the lengthy attunement process to acquire The Tempest Key, granting them access. This process includes completing heroic dungeons and a raid.

Finding the Entrance to The Eye

The entrance to Tempest Keep: The Eye can be found in eastern Netherstorm, positioned in the air. It is nearby to The Botanica, The Arcatraz and The Mechanar.

Raid Preparation

Tempest Keep: The Eye is a 25-man raid in The Burning Crusade Classic. Similar to Serpentshrine Cavern, players don’t have to follow a set order in defeating the bosses. The bosses included in The Eye:

  1. Al’ar
  2. Void Reaver
  3. High Astromancer Solarian
  4. Kael’thas Sunstrider

Once every raid member is attuned, we would then focus on composing the ideal raid group:

  • Tanks: 4-5
    • Warrior and Druid tanks will help with maintaining Al’ar during her first Phase with the use of Intercept and Feral Charge to return to their assigned platforms in enough time before she starts doing AoE damage
    • Paladin tanks can assist with tanking adds on High Astromancer Solarian and Al’ar
    • Tanks should be aware that on Void Reaver, their threat output will be tested
  • Heals: 6-9
    • This number may fluctuate depending on your guild/group’s gear level. It will also depend on your overall approach to each encounter.
  • DPS: Having a healthy mixture of Ranged and Melee DPS is a good idea. Specifically opting to bring a certain number of Hunters may help your group defeat Void Reaver a little easier with Misdirection on the tank(s). During Phase 1 of Al’ar, Ranged DPS will likely be the only ones attacking Al’ar while Melee DPS focus on defeating adds

Trash Mobs

  • Astromancer
  • Star Scryer
  • Bloodwarder Legionnaire
  • Bloodwarder Vindicator

Astromancer and Star Scryer both deal AoE damage to the raid, while only Star Scryer can mind control a player. Because of this, these two mobs should be first and second to die.

The Legionnaire has a Whirlwind and Cleave ability, so they should be tanked away from the raid to avoid taking unnecessary damage. They should also be tanked facing the wall. The Vindicator has a Hammer of Justice spell and a heal. These mobs can be controlled via Polymorph, if necessary.

  • Bloodwarder Marshal
  • Bloodwarder Squire

The Bloodwarder Marshal can perform a knockback, so the tank should be positioned with their back to the wall. The Bloodwarder Squire have a Cleanse and Heal ability, so they should be interrupted as much as possible.

  • Tempest Falconer
  • Phoenix-Hawk Hatchling

These mobs should be dragged back into the hallway before the DPS engage them. Overall, these mobs are not very note-worthy.

  • Phoenix-Hawk (Group should converge for Dive, and soak Mana Burn)
  • Crystalcore Devastator (Tank is susceptible to knockback, when that happens, the tank can quickly taunt the mob to regain aggro)
  • Crystalcore Sentinel (Healers will need to put out extra healing for the melee group and tanks)
  • Crystalcore Mechanic (These can be controlled via a Warlock’s Banish)
  • Tempest-Smith (Priests can Mind Control these)
  • Crimson Hand Blood Knight
  • Crimson Hand Battle Mage
  • Crimson Hand Centurion

Boss Encounters

Tempest Keep: The Eye offers players the ability to challenge four bosses, each with their own unique hurdles for players to overcome. In terms of overall difficulty, Void Reaver is generally considered the easiest boss to defeat while Kael’thas Sunstrider is the hardest. Below we will cover each boss available in The Eye and include a brief breakdown of the encounter.

Al’ar

While Al’ar is generally the first boss you will be able to engage, some may choose to defeat Void Reaver first. Al’ar is a majestic phoenix is has the ability to resurrect themselves once during the encounter.

Al’ar in Tempest Keep: The Eye

Here is a quick breakdown of the encounter:

  • Tanks – During Phase 1, there should be a tank on the bottom platform, ready and waiting to tank adds spawned after Al’ar moves from one platform to another. There should also be tanks scattered around the upper platform to tank Al’ar to avoid her causing AoE damage. During Phase 2, tanks will need to take turns tanking by taunting off of each other when afflicted with Melt Armor
  • Healers – During Phase 1, healers should be spread out enough to reach the tanks on the top platform and the DPS and Tank on the bottom platform. During Phase 2, healers should focus on keeping the raid alive
  • Ranged DPS – During Phase 1, Ranged DPS will be attacking Al’ar between her transitioning from platform to platform from 100% – 0%. During Phase 2, Ranged DPS will continue to attack Al’ar
  • Melee DPS – During Phase 1, Melee DPS will focus on defeating the adds tanked on the bottom platform. During Phase 2, Melee DPS will engage Al’ar

Void Reaver

Deemed the easiest boss encounter in The Eye, Void Reaver even coined the nickname, “Loot Reaver” back in 2007-2008 due to the lack of difficulty.

Void Reaver in Tempest Keep: The Eye

Here is a quick breakdown of the encounter:

  • Tanks – Tanks should be aware of Void Reaver’s Knockback, which reduces their overall threat generated significantly. Because of this, it is important that each tank maintains their assigned threat assignment (First threat, Second threat, etc.)
  • Healers – Healers should be aware of Pounding, which causes AoE damage within a melee range. This damage can be avoided but some groups may choose to have their melee DPS stay through it, and to be healed through it. Healers should also be on the lookout for Arcane Orb to avoid damage and being silenced for a short time
  • Ranged DPS – Ranged DPS will only have to lookout for Arcane Orb while damaging the boss
  • Melee DPS – Melee DPS will only really need to lookout for Pounding while damaging the boss

High Astromancer Solarian

A Warlock by trade, High Astromancer Solarian begins the encounter in her natural form, a Blood Elf, and then later into the encounter transforms into a Voidwalker.

High Astromancer Solarian in Tempest Keep: The Eye

Here is a quick breakdown of the encounter:

  • High Astromancer Solarian uses two forms to battle against you: her Humanoid Form and Voidwalker Form. From 100% down to 20%, she is in her Humanoid Form, turning into a Voidwalker for the final 20% of the encounter.
  • Tanks – During her Humanoid Form, perform a tank-and-spank process, with a tank ready to pick up adds every 50 seconds that will be AoE’d down. At 20% it becomes a pure tank-and-spank encounter.
  • Healers – Solarian will randomly cast Wrath of the Astromancer, causing a raid member to take increased Arcane damage. Healers should be aware ofthis member in case they take Arcane Missiles.
  • DPS – 15 seconds after the adds are summoned, two additional Priest adds will be summoned that need to be killed as soon as humanly possible. DPS can be stacked to make moving away from the group easier when afflicted with Wrath of the Astromancer.

Kael’thas Sunstrider

An encounter filled with lore, Kael’thas Sunstrider will definitely test you and your guild’s skill and put everyone to the test. This is a five-phase encounter with little room for breaks.

Kael’thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep: The Eye

Here is a quick breakdown of the encounter:

  • Tanks – One tank will have to be assigned to Telonicus and another to Sanguinar. One tank will need to be assigned to kiting the Phoenix once Kael’thas enters the fray. One Warlock will need to be an honorary tank for this encounter to tank Capernian during the early phases (Make sure they turn off Blessing of Salvation, and get it reapplied after she is defeated).
  • Heals – Healers should keep their distant when Capernian is engaged, to avoid causing additional damage to need to be healed. Apart from that, they should focus on keeping their teammates alive.
  • DPS – Ranged DPS will be the focus for defeating Capernian, Thaladred and damaging Kael’thas while suspended in the air. Melee DPS should focus on Telonicus, Sanguinar and Kael’thas
