PVP Marksmanship Hunter Guide

PVP Marksmanship Hunter Guide WotLK 3.3.5a

Welcome to the Marksmanship Hunter PvP Wrath of the Lich King guide! Marksmanship Hunters represent one of the strongest ranged specializations in the entire expansion, providing extreme amounts of damage both physical and magical, while also packing strong utility, crowd control, and defensive abilities!

Known for their mastery of bow and arrow, Marksmanship Hunters eliminate threats with ferocious precision. Training their whole lives, those efficient rangers have lineage into old elven archery, and can take down multiple targets in mere moments. Not are they ferocious killers, but Marksmanship Hunters can also empower their allies, increasing their ranged proficiency as well — they effectively serve as officers for other individuals who prefer ranged combat.

Marksmanship Hunter is one of the most balanced hunter specializations, providing both strong offensive and defensive options while also providing strong utility and crowd control! Their only downfall is their lack of self-sustain, however, they compensate for this by being able to hamper their target’s sustain capabilities.

This guide will teach you how to properly play a Marksmanship Hunter in PvP scenarios, whether those might be battlegrounds, arenas, or the open world. To navigate to the different sections, just use the buttons at the top of the guide!

Marksmanship Hunter Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Powerful Crowd-Control
Marksmanship Hunters have access to a large array of crowd control abilities, ranging from magical arrows that prohibit any type of spell casting ( Silencing Shot), to traps that freeze the ground or even unleash snakes on their enemies( Frost Trap and Snake Trap)! They can also use special abilities that will either daze or disorient their enemies such as Scatter Shot or Concussive Shot.
  • Powerful Burst Damage
Marksmanship Hunters have the highest burst out of all the Hunter specializations, having access to a large variety of instant cast damage abilities — their damage is limited only by the Global Cooldown. They perform well even against heavily armored targets such as Paladins and Warriors! They can entirely decimate their targets with abilities such as Chimera Shot and Aimed Shot.
  • Dominance over Spell Caster
Out of all the Hunter Specializations, Marksmanship Hunter packs the largest punch against caster classes, being able to entirely overpower them with strong crowd control abilities and extreme amounts of damage. Marksmanship Hunters’ advantages stem from their high attack range and their large variety of instant cast abilities that can be used in conjunction with LoS to destroy any caster.
  • Fun Playstyle
Marksmanship Hunters have a very engaging playstyle that can bring endless hours of entertainment! Their high attack range and instant cast abilities allow you to have mastery over any battlefield as long as you position yourself properly. We strongly recommend this specialization for anyone who enjoys quickly destroying enemies from afar!

Weaknesses

  • No Self-Sustain
While Marksmanship Hunters have access to a large variety of crowd control and utility tools, they lack any form of self-sustain and healing abilities, leaving them vulnerable in long fights. Marksmanship Hunters rely on their ability to quickly burst down their targets; if the fight goes long, a Marksmanship Hunter will need a healer class to keep them from succumbing to attrition.
  • Hard to Master
Marksmanship Hunters are hard to master, both because of their vulnerability in close combat and their large number of abilities. While Marksmanship Hunters are extremely powerful when they have the advantage of range, in close combat they will find themselves easily countered — it can be hard to remember which ability does what when a warrior is in your face!

Conclusion

We hope this guide has been able to help you decide if PvP Marksmanship Hunter is the class / spec for you. Make sure to check out our other sections, such as talents, gear, gems etc., to get more information on how to improve your performance as a Survival Hunter in WotLK!

Hi!
So for PvP there are no fixed values and it depends wether it’s an Arena or a Battleground.
Here are some outlines:

Hit = 5% is required, some classes will still dodge if geared / specced.
Ranged Attack Power = around 6k (with BiS gear)
Resilience = 1000 is a bare minimum for Arena, 1100 is OK. [max cap 1400]
Crit chance = around 50%
Spell Penetration = 75 is good [x3 Gems], 130 if you want to maximize it against mages

For Battlegrounds you can afford a glass-cannon strategy, using more PVE items to increase damage while reducing survivability bcs of the lower Resilience. Needless to say, good positioning is crucial in this case.
