Just over a week ago, along with the reveal of new, fresh servers for WotLK, Blizzard announced that they would be tweaking certain parameters about creating & transferring characters between servers. In specific, the announced changes were:

  • You can now have more than 10 characters per server. This limit is instead changed to 50 characters per account, just like on Retail WoW.
  • You can now have both Alliance & Horde characters at the same time on PvP servers.
  • You can now transfer characters on normal servers, to PvP servers.

Kaivax just announced that these changes are already live! This is certainly a welcome change for players sporting many alt characters, and much earlier than we anticipated. Good call there, Blizzard!

This has of course sparked a vivid debate on the topic, as certain players feel that the PvP server related changes essentially diminish the concept of a PvP server to the point where they’re virtually identical to PvE servers. These changes mostly mirror what Blizzard has done on Retail WoW, but without introducing the “War Mode” system which ties it all together. Regardless, the first change is almost universally praised, particularly by alt-oholics.

I assume the ability of having both factions on the same PVP server will stay when the servers switch from TBC to WOTLK?
